  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

Hey Kevin, yes the RED Rocket Card ( without the breakout box ) has a single Dual Link HD-SDI that can drive an external broadcast monitor in realtime ( 2k or 1080p scaled down from your 4k etc. R3D's ). The software of course will need to support it with RA! and RED Rushes supporting RED Rocket first out of the gate, and external applications can support the card through the updated RED SDK that should be released around the same time.

Great! Thanks a bunch for clearing that up.

Kevin

Hi

This is very exciting...

1. Does it have a 1080p 422 output for monitoring? Many BVM HD (and other) monitors are not 444 capable.

2. I might have missed the answer to this one... but what is the Audio output support?

3. Does it have TC output?

4. Will we be able to output into Avid uncompressed quictimes? (I appreciate this is less a Rocket question but we really need this)

thank alot!!

Michael L

Audio output is via the embedded signals (ie. hdsdi/hdmi)
TC is embedded into the hdsdi.

thanks for that..

I assume the 422 question is still being looked into. If the answer is no, does anyone know of a cost effective 444 to 422 converters?

thank again

Correct, I don't know the answer at the moment but will check.

You mean that with the updated SDK the 3rd part software have not modify anything and it will works?

I mean after the new SDK RR will work on those software that already use the SDK ?...or they upgrade their software as well?

here one Example :Cineform Encode Redcode to CF codc using the SDK , now using half res debayer the speed is 10 fps because of the slow R3D decoding ... with RR and teh new SDK and the New SDK Cineform will automatically get the R3D decode from RR ?

Thanks

is there going to be any major update to REDCine to coincide with the Rocket's launch? It sure would be nice to have REDCine become the defacto standard for processing all RED footage, while viewing your timeline on an HD SDI 1080 monitor. Man that would rock. Take the best from Red Rushes and put it in REDCine. It is just SO much easier to work on a day's worth of footage for processing with a 'look' than doing this via Red Rushes and Red Alert.

Redcine is perhaps the most disappointing software I have ever used... all I find it useful for is onset re-assurance (and with the new colour stuf this will be needed less). In this capacity it is great but my early expectations really drained hours and joy out of my life.

Luckily Red helped us out with allowing us access to, and quickly developing further, their internal dev tools.

Also I nearly always process my rushes with a look using Red rushes. The real problem is when you need more than I look per setup. If all you want is one look for everything then it is pretty easy.

Are there people doing serous work exclusively with Redcine at the moment? Very interested to know?

Also I'd love to know if RR will ever allow filtering rules?

regards

i can't find the way to process half res in redcine!
even if select draft as process and half res as viewing mode... nothing always render out at 3fps...

i have opened a thread about this but no useful answer...

i have been hoping (for well over a year) that REDCine would become more than it is. What is needed is to milk the best tools out of RED Rushes and put them in a new, expanded 'output' tab in REDCine. If you combine the output functionality of RED Rushes with the Timeline Colorizing functionality of REDCine, you'd have a winner.

now, add the native mxf output functionality of jamie perry's magic mind, and REDCine is all that you'd ever need to process your RED files. I find it odd that RED never did more with REDCine. I am hoping the potential for REDCine working together with RED Rocket changes this...

I'm with you guys 100%. RED Cine for me is a wasted tool with SO much potential. If it could take an XML doc in, allow us to color only those in-out clips and then export ONLY those frames...I would pay a lot for that. I'm really bummed we've seen such slow progress on that app.

Honestly, it was so buggy in not rendering what I wanted and crashing that I don't even open it anymore. It's a real bummer to have an app that is so close, but we can't use.

My $.02.

Crimson has enabled it to do exactly that for for over a year now. And if you would pay "a lot" for that capability, then surely less than $200 is within your budget.

Michael L,

Miranda has a host of different converters and a2d solutions.

Hope that helps...

Deanan,

I was asking the other day about the possibility of releasing the rocket without DVI-D but DisplayPort for those of us using monitors which support DisplayPort interfaces. These are 10 bits per channel and will output a 2560x1600 image which is great for doing full 2k work.

We're already swapping out graphics cards in machines as the displayport interface is 10 bit as opposed to 8 bit with DVI-D.

Kevin,

you know that Scratch is RedCine "Pro"?

There are others who build nice apps that excatly do (and much more) than RedCine - such as SpeedGrade XR for instance. They are just not for free - on the contrary. Like with cameras: you get what you pay for, sometimes more, sometimes less. RedCine is a free app that was developed in the very beginning to complement the RedOne nicely but never took off - for various reasons I don't know.

You actually say "you would pay a lot for that"... check out assimilate.com and iridas.com

23.98psf or 23.98p

23.98psf or 23.98p

Hey RED team,

Will the card push out 1080sf23.98 or will it only do 1080p23.98?

Thanks
Colin

Hey Red, still wondering if the card push out 1080sf23.98 or will it only do 1080p23.98?

cheers
Colin

i was hoping for something in between scratch cine and redcine.....that would be a redcine 'pro'.

anyways, i am still stoked about the rocket. just thought it was a good thread to air my wishes as a 'version 4.0' of REDCine would time out perfectly with the Rocket.

They make it [Scratchcine], but it's still $20 grand.

I'd love a new version of REDcine, but it's based on such a different foundation than the other RED apps that I feel like there'll be a split at some point.
