  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

Is Apple on board?

Is Apple on board?

Delivery schedule in now 1st week of July.

Deanan will jump in to answer questions.

So when will Apple announce support, are they on board? I thought some announcement from WWDC would have been a good thing. If Apple ain't on its not a product.

There will be a new version of the SDK that takes advantage of REDrocket. The changes to the host app to use REDrocket will be minor.

Hi Deanan,

I have some questions, and flying over the thread I haven't been able to extract answers on this yet:

1. Will it be possible to feed softwares image output via the RED Rocket hardware outs?
So would it be thinkable to use it e.g. as a framebuffer for software like e.g. Eyeon Fusion to output an image signal via the RED Rocket quad DVI or dual link SDI?

2. Will RED Rocket support frame accurate playback to tape, so that we could copy R3D to tape for review or even for mastering if required?
Important is that its frame accurate. Inaccurate methods make just no sense at all.

3. Will it be possible to overlay timecode or other valueable metadate for the output?

4. Is following scenario realistic and thinkable (after third parties adopting the new SDK)?
- RED Rocket decodes 4K RAW and downscales to HD realtime
- RED Rocket feeds that signal in realtime into a grading or editing app of choice.
- The app is modifying the HD image data and feeding it back to RED Rocket.
- RED Rockets video outputs show the modified image stream on the outputs, almost realtime with minimal delay (well, a bit delay is logical here), but again frame sync, so not dropping frames and such).

???

5. How exactly will RED Rocket be sold?
We have seen the Silverado sales info, but - being from germany - is Silverado the sales channel to look at, or will there be the option to buy directly from RED or RED UK office? Or a european/german sales partner?
I can't find it in RED store yet (am I missing something here) but have seen it in Silverados shop.

We plan our orders on the boards now, so I need to know who I need to talk to :)

If you could give me some simple answers on the above, it would help us a lot on making our decision on how many boards we aim to install.

Thanks for you efforts,
Axel

RED Rocket will be in the RED.com store online soon, and in Lake Forest and the RED UK office when the product is ready for sale. Silverado is not a sales partner or distributor in the traditional sense... they are simply purchasing the cards just like all of you and reselling them, like many vendors will choose to do that integrate them in systems.

Are you guys going to announce a like week before that the product will be ready , or will be a same day surprise?

Thanks

g

Hey Jarred,

Are you guys going to recommend say a good, better and best system setup for both Mac and PC?

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Looking into it.
4. Highly dependent on the software and hardware involved but in theory it's possible.
5. See Jarred's post.

PS: Could either one of you or Brent drop ME an email when the store is up with the RED Rocket... My finger dances on that "Ignite" button :head_explode:

"Problem adding to the store" for me.

1080sf vs. 1080p

1080sf vs. 1080p

Hey RED team,

Will the card push out 1080sf23.98 or will it only do 1080p23.98?

Thanks
Colin

Sorry guys they made a small error with part numbers in adding it to the store.. give em 5-10 minutes to correct.

As I'm patiently waiting to plunk down my cash, a question about the breakout box:

Does it offer anything additional compared to just the card? (additional HDSDI ports, perhaps?) OR is it just a convenience thing so you can put it in a rack of gear?
