  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

I've run into quite a few folks that for one reason or another believe the myth that RED post is too complex. Transcode times and all.

RED Rocket is a great tool to alleviate this. Can't wait until every post house in town has them in their arsenal and puts that issue to rest.

Jim, well done.

I think I just crapped my pants.

So wait... say I have a plain old 1080p HD tv with hdmi inputs - can I get a realtime out at 1080p via hdmi?

1080p sounds so old and feeble now...

Also does this have any impact on stuff shot anamorphic?

Best,
R.

Say goodbye to Scratch and DaVinci - Hello Color! Now we just need a simple EDL export plug-in from Vegas to Color. Or port Color to the PC - Not likely!

Hang on!
I would say the opposite,
Say goodbye to Color. -Hello daVinci (and al the other Linux SDK users)

This RedRocket will be a perfect tool to speed up a daVinci withough having to spend a ile of money for daVinci-made-hardware.
In theory I should, by august, be able to by a RedRocket through daVinci (with some money on top) and simply plug it into my Resolve.

And then getting an extreemly competative box that will kick any "Color"-suite's ass, any day. And even with 24/7/365 phone/email/skype/VNC-support.

I bet you a million dollars that there are a lot more daVinci-users that has had VNC-remte login from daVinci-HQ, then Color-users that has had Apple logged in over VNC (or even a direct phone conversation)

I'm a daVinci Colorist for about 7years. And since we bought our Resolve we've had an extreemly good suppport from them. We pay good money for that support, but it's sure worth it when you sit at midnight with clients and run into a bug with no workaround.
I'm sure other ColorCorectors (Nucoda/BaseLight/Pablo/Luster/Scratch etc) has the same support, or at least try to. But I've never heard anyone talk about Apple-support like this.

To compare Color with daVinci (and others) is just a joke. Any DoP / Director that was experience in commersial-grading (thatts when you are spending 8hrs on a 30s spot, having 6people from the client and agency saying contradicting thing, and tweeking skintone for hours and hours) knows what I'm talking about.
You just can't do that in "Color" with the interactivety, speed and flexibility.

Don't get me wrong though. I've got nothing agoinst "Color".
i't a damn good app. It's relly good for what its made for. It brought ColorCorection "to the people" and have for sure changed the grading industry (for good or bad, depends on who you are and how you make money).

Last year I was out at my countryhouse fixing the roof. I spent all day up there putting tiles in. During the day my brother was editig on his iMac.
In the evening we cooked dinner and graded the musicvideo in "Color".
(and talk about D65 lighting... you should see the swedish summer-dusk-skylight. Perfect ambient lighting for grading:)
We sent some stills to the director using a 3G-modem. Got it approved and uploaded the final render to a FTP-site over night.
No way I could have done that with a daVinci!
Different Apps for different jobbs.

FCP is two years without a major update, let's see what this summer brings

No kidding! ; )

I seriously am waiting for Steve Jobs (getwell)
to bring Jim Jannard to the release of the New Final Cut
A revolutionary keynote!
Call me crazy but Red is a revolution and this would be so deserved.

Delivery in July???!!

You guys are amazing

Rocket's to the future!

Would it be able to combine with Addenda remote cable, so you can control the deck to master to HDCAM?

Great news!!!!!

Thanks Jim & Red Team!

Will REDCINE support HD-SDI output through the RR?

I doubt it brook. That might render Scratch a bit obsolete because people would start grading with REDCINE and output with REDROCKET.

It would be useful for backup tape daillies to SR though.

I wonder about this. RR should be able to act like a KONA card exactly. If I bought RR why would I need a KONA 3?

David

man, the Red Rocket's release would time out perfectly with my long time fantasy of a beefed up REDCine 'Pro'......

Yes Chris....but....why would they do that??

It makes sense, but I think they'd have to call it Scratch lite. I am not sure that REDCINE has a V-OUT in the software or we could have been doing that with a KONA 3 by now.

David

Thats My Concern..

What will Happen To Scratch Cine Now?
If RedCine will hace SDI out from RR and Realtime rendering and playback....Well i think that Scratch Cine will loose like 50% of Value...

Unless Scratch will have others benefit from the Card....or if They decide to don't let RedCien use the card...

Denan?

True, but the veritable "Scratch Lite" is $20 grand already. I do hope [expect?] HD-SDI output has been added to REDCINE, but I don't imagine any new features.

If RR makes Color realtime [assuming you have the processor strength to handle the grades you're applying in realtime], there's your Scratch Lite. :)

Guys how RR could make Color Realtime?

color is not realtime even with uncompressed footage...RR will decode only R3D...
Color have not a realtime engine based on powerful Graphic Crad...
