  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

if I'm not working with Red footage, something HD but with a different codec?
Basically can it work like a kona (for monitoring and outputting) ?

OK. Mac Pro, Graphics card 16x slot. Red Rocket 8x slot. Leaving two 1x slots for ATTO HBA (wants 8x, gets 1x) and eSATA card (for pulling R3D's in from external media - wants 4x, gets 1x). So we have got to be talking about an external PCI extender or Hackintosh...

Still, Deenan, when can I leave my deposit?

Sorry for the ignorant question, but why can't u use x16 graphics if the rocket is x8

Because my other x16 slot is taken up by a RAID controller.

In other words:

A Mac Pro has 2 x16 slots and 2 x4 slots. The first [double-wide] x16 slot is taken up by a graphics card from the factory. The second x16 slot is often used by high-speed storage. The other two [x4] slots are generally used by other toys... SAS cards, Konas, eSATA cards, BlackMagic cards, etc.

So in order to have a RR and a non-graphics x16 card [a RAID controller, for example] in the same Mac Pro, one must find a x4 graphics card and lose one of their other x4 cards.

That's what I meant.

We need Apple to release a new MacPro. Good work on the Rocket guys

Or you can switch to a PC and not worry about any of this :-)

Cool. Although my wallet says "aaaaaargh!!!"

Supported framerates? 24, 25, 30fps others?

Output syncable (Synchronise two Macs, genlock into HD studio etc)?

Exciting times.

Will RR allow playback via SDI of other video codecs from an NLE? If so it could replace a Kona or Blackmagic card in a tapeless enviroment, or where footage has been transcoded for space/workflow reasons - additional video/audio output options notwithstanding.

Certainly, for me (and anyone who works with more than just RED footage daily) it would make this an 'easier' purchase.

Cheers,

Ben

RedRocket And Scratch

RedRocket And Scratch

Denan,
What Bout Red Rocket And Scratch?

I am just about to invest on Scratch Cine...How this card will Influence Scratch?

Maybe the SDi out of the RR card could be used (instead of the SDI of the Quadro FX (so the quadro non SDi will be enough..)) ?

Or the RR will take care only of the R3D Decoding leaving the CPU "free" and all the Rest in scratch will be the Same?(so basically no more need of Corei7 over clocked to 4GHZ to have half res decode...)

Thanks

G

So many questions. When will the full specs be released? I would like to know about audio. Specifically if we could use a computer to playback to a Sony 4k projector and how would we get audio into the theaters Dolby CP650?

Two questions...

Will this only work for Red Footage, or will the processing power of the card accelerate any video footage your editing? (I assume no, since it seems designed specifically for transcoding Red Footage.)

And, how much will it accelerate the transcoding of future resolutions from the Red line? (3K, 5K, 6K, etc.)

First - the new 120 will work in any slot...

Second - Your storage should be fine in the x4 slots, since they provide throughput of 2GB/s. I don't think Your storage is running faster then that...

Great news. Im surprised its coming so soon. i was thinking it would be late fall at the soonest. You guys have a lot of tricks up your sleeves.

The linux compatibility...Will you release a pre-compiled version for any common distros such as ubuntu? Will we have the option to compile it ourselves for other distros?

Great News! So July for Rocket- great timing! Now when is Scarlet coming out? Aprox 5000 USD for a Red ROcket: How about a package deal for the S35 Scarlet with the Red Rocket, at 10k? That would be a game changing deal, and would seriously separate Red's product from Canon's rumoured upcoming Camcorder with the 5d sensor...
