  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Okay, so RED has gone dark, I'm fine with that as I've been an Apple customer for nearly 20 years, but I'm a little confused over RED's newly announced road map since there's no mention of Epic-S and would appreciate if anyone could shed a little light on the situation since I really, really don't want to buy an F3.

I'd also like a clarification, if possible, as to the state of Epic-S on the road map. If it's dead there's a few accessory orders I need to cancel.

Its ok guys, you can relax, the reason I am guessing Scarlet was mentioned and not Epic-S is because scarlet is next in line, then Epic-S (according to the least update on order of release) I don't doubt for a second that Epic-S is coming. Now when...is the question.

Your guess is as good as mine... which is why I asked for clarification.

I'd like to know if the following quote is still on the road map:

Many project from artistic to commercial you are able to shoot with affordable 1080p cameras starting from several excellent DSLR to Sony F3, etc...

No need of REDMX or Alexa, etc,... for a production that is in 1080p or 2K category but only in a case that you would like to make a sort of hype from your own production.

Some of recent examples:

Shot on 7D/5D Like Crazy

7D Tiny furniture

Both look much better than a lot of crap features recently shot on Alexa or even RED...
 
Sanjin, I've got a 5D and a 7D. I know what they are capable of and I know their limitations - which is why I want an Epic S.

All I'm asking for is a hint that the program is still going ahead. I'm guessing quite a few other people would like that hint too.

I didn't know the 5/7d shoots 300fps and has 14 stops of latitude? N0 moraying (sp)? Extreme jello effect? 12 min limit? Wow they fixed all of that? I have a 5D and love it, I just would never compare the 2.. Just because your shooting 1080 doesn't mean you should.
 
The camera you want is later this year. This is the problem I talked about. Speculation is either that we have taken something off the table (I already posted it wasn't) or that we are giving away a free Las Vegas house with every purchase over $100. (rolls eyes)

Thank you Jim. We will no longer ask about it. None of us want Red to be in a position where it is level with the competition. Epic-S for the price is going to blow everyone else out of the water. Enough said.

Speak for yourself. Is later this year a real destination Jim? I really am ready to buy this camera, accessories, etc if the price is what we have heard and delivery is this year. It would make for a great Christmas present. Just sayin'

No wonder. I'm retiring now, after a brief directing career, but I want to say that Red made life so much more bearable for me. Back in 2007/8, when we were desperate for our camera, Jim, Jarred and others wrote personal messages, helping us out, keeping us informed. It was like dealing with a local shop - personal, friendly, supportive. You could tell that the whole thing was a labour of love, and that counted for a lot.
