I'm posting this simply out of curiosity of others' experiences dealing with orders of RED cameras and accessories through suggested retail partners.

As many of you in the forums did as well, we transferred a portion of our existing RED order about 4 weeks ago to Image One due to the advice that "parts are in stock now" (DSMC2 accessories) or "will be available much sooner" versus keeping orders with RED, so we transferred a few pending items over to Image One - paid in full up front. Today, I notice that RED has items that are now "In Stock" such as the new DSMC2 7" Monitor which was part of our transferred order; whereas, we are still waiting for even a single item to be fulfilled by Image One. I called Image One today and they claim no RED parts have come in nor do they believe they have anything in stock. Just from the posts here, it appears that quite a few transferred order to this retailers so has anyone actually seen any fulfillment from them yet?

UPDATE: Just got a call from Image One that our DSMC2 7" Monitor for Raven and Mini-Mag station just shipped to us. Robert has been helping to keep us up to date recently on items coming in from RED so it seems that things are finally moving out.

just out of curiosity, why wouldnt you keep both orders and cancel the one that doesnt come first?
like for lenses i always preorder from bandh and adorama and see who gets it to me first.

To be frank, because full payments was provided up front and we do not care to have funds unnecessarily tied up for months as it could potentially be reallocated towards other needs. Despite this though, the issue is not regarding the need "to wait" so please don't misunderstand. It's in regards to the reliability of Image One and others' experiences with this retailer as we have never had any dealings with them before.

I ordered my Raven through a dealer and I have not been pleased. There does seem to be a disconnect between what the dealer would tell me and what I would read on reduser. I found the Red Bomb Squad Reps to be ridiculously more helpful than the dealer I've been working with.

I moved my order over to Image One as well at the recommendation of Clark my RED rep. Everyone else here who ordered from RED seems to be getting all their accessories in that were ordered outside the packages, but I am fully paid and haven't received anything outside my I/O package.

I have a Scarlet-W pre-order in with Image One, but I personally think they are very misguided in their beliefs about how dealing with Red works. They think they get some preferential treatment over direct red.com customers even though that notion has been debunked on here by Brent.

FWIW, I ordered a 7" touch (the new, cableless one) on red.com on Friday (5/20) and it's currently at the Hollywood store waiting for me to pick it up.

I ordered through AbelCine and had a very good experience. I don't think that all dealers are created equal. And I have not seen any evidence that Red places priority on shipping out to dealers over red.com orders. Lastly, I felt that Image One were being very dishonest with all of the Facebook advertising that they did saying basically saying that they would get cameras before anyone else. And RED were already shipping cameras and Image One were acting like it wasn't happening. Something is weird with them.

Image One only recently became a RED dealer, and I think they're just eager to push it. In some cases, they seem to have oversold their position with RED, but their staff has been friendly and professional.

While I can't speak to Image One, I can appreciate your frustration.

We are a RED dedicated partner based in Austin, TX. If it does not support the RED camera system, we don't sell it. With that said I can tell you that I talk with my team from RED on a daily basis. My belief is that transparent communication is critical, with the manufacture/partner and the customers we support.

With each order that has been placed with us, we were upfront with our customers about delivery times. I firmly believe that RED is committed to delivering product as fast as they can produce it.

The only way a RED partner will receive cameras before anybody else is if they placed a stocking order. This is what we have done to insure that we will have available products to deliver once our stocking order is delivered. If a company is making a claim that they can deliver product before RED, it is all predicated on where they placed their stocking order. Even with that said, no partner can make a claim stating delivery times (camera brains). It is simply not possible.

My hope is that it is just a mix up in communication with how your order is being handled.

I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that these new dealers are SALESPEOPLE. It's their job to get you to buy from them instead of from RED directly. Why wouldn't they promise you the world in an effort to get you to make the switch? Especially when you are also paying them in full upfront!!!! (Which sounds ridiculous to me.) I'm not even remotely surprised that some dealers are acting unscrupulously in their attempts to grab a larger market share.

FWIW we are not all created equal. I actually instructed some people to stick with RED based on where their order date was. I want AbelCine to be able to sell as many RED packages as possible, but not at the expense of hurting someone's booked job or lifeline. We are all part of this community and I like to think that us dealers are in it to offer support as well.

I didn't mean to imply that all dealers are bad, as I did say SOME dealers are acting unscrupulously.

Sorry if it sounded like I was slighting AbleCine. Absolutely not my intention.

No not at all, I didn't take it that way. I just wanted to pop in and speak up for all of us "good" sales guys haha

Right there with fairies and unicorns ;-) (kidding of course)
I must add that working with Abel sales professionals for the last 3 years has been a delight. They really are exceptional professionals of our industry. I should know I've done this for 29 years....

Wait..... So there isnt a "dealer priority"? Last I read there was but no one could communicate what that priority is.
I have a feeling I lengthened my wait time now by going with a dealer. Ugh, this is starting to smell like a Blackmagic launch.

Dealers don't receive a priority technically, or skip anyone in line. But as Dealers, we purchase camera's in a larger quantity, so when we see an allocation, we can potentially see multiple camera's at a time. So we are eating away at a larger chunk of the allocation list. We are in the same master allocation list as every RED Direct customer. Our PO's just include a longer list of gear. I hope this makes sense and helps clear things up a bit.

Well put Brian. As a fellow dealer I have a great deal of respect for AbleCine and what they have done for the industry. Hopefully I conveyed that in my previous post.

RED has a pretty extensive vetting process to become a dealer. When we went through the process, we interviewed the RED team to insure it was a good fit for all involved. Again, I can't speak for other RED partners only what we have been through. The reason RED is building a partner network is to help better serve the marketplace. Their goal is to help improve upon the customer experience.

Like all new programs of this kind, there will be unexpected challenges along the way. The goal is to continually improve upon the process.

I definitely think you conveyed that as you intended. I like to think of the dealer network as an extension of the support that the Bomb Squad and everyone else over there can provide. They doubled their army. I don't look at any of the other dealers as enemies or competition, just friends who happen to want to get more RED product in to the world.
