  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi All,
Was wondering if anyone has made a remote on/off switch for the Red Camera.
I have a Chopper shoot coming up whereby the camera will be rigged to the nose of the chopper. I need to start and stop the camera from the cockpit and will not be able to sight the red recording indicator at the back of the camera. If anyone has made such a lead I would be interested to hear from you.
This lead would have numerous applications not only to the one i've just mentioned. My Preston FIZ system will do this but its an expensive exercise when budgets are tight.

By "on/off" do you mean "run/stop"?

The cheapest way to do it is with an air photo release [think a little squeeze bubble with a hose on the end... probably $15 from Samy's] and some creative rigging.

You'll know when the camera is rolling by the red, ticking timecode visible on the monitoring output. There will also be a red dot in the upper-left of the screen.

Do a search for "helicopter mount" or "beebe" and you'll find some pictures of the photo release we built before anybody had cables.

You might consider picking up the Preston cable for your FIZ anyway... this won't be your last RED job. :)
