  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Quad Charger + RedVolt XLs

Quad Charger is nice. But what is the advantage of 2 Redvolt XL's instead of 4 Redvolts? Is it much more duration?

They noted that the XL's are slightly deeper in size. Which is just barely over 2x the capacity supposedly...

Quad Charger:

Weight: about 4 lbs, 14 ounces.

Dimensions (LxWxH): 5 1/2" x 4" x 6 1/2" (with rubber feet)

RedVolt XL:

Weight: about 1 lb, 10 ounces.

Dimensions (LxWxH): 3 5/16" x 3 3/16" x 3 9/16"

Hope that helps those of you who needed dimensions :thumbup1:

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, Have you noted how long it is to charge one and is it a simultaneous charger or series?

No problem!

I am going to see how long it takes to charge and how long they run this weekend.

The batteries charge simultaneously!

Hey, now that I have a quad battery mount of my own, I see a potential design flaw. If you have XL batteries in, does that interfere with pulling out the SSD? That is does the XL battery stick out just enough to prevent a clean path to put in or pull SSD out?

Yeah I noticed this as well. I guess you would have the Pro I/O Module in between, or you could have regular RedVolts on one side and the XLs on the other.

Good grief! Looks like the size of the XL batteries changed significantly since the original design. I'll stick with getting the dual battery module instead.

What is the actual wattage of these? It seems this setup is about the equivalent of a RED Brick with a battery plate off the back? It would be great if someone created a "backpack" plate for the XL batteries so that you can have the option of using just one.

Hey everyone! Really sorry for not being able to post sooner. Have been shooting and slowly putting my short film together so it has been a bit hectic.

Used the XLs on set again today and all went smoothly. Not the best place to try and record charge and run times though, haha.

Tomorrow I will set up the camera, and have it run with 2 freshly charged XLs. I'll record charge times and run times. I hope that'll help you all with your decision on whether or not to get them :)

Again I do apologize for the long wait, I hope you can all forgive me!

Total run time with 2 RedVolt XLs, no side handle battery, was almost 3 hours, 2:59:10 to be exact.

This was powering the 5" Touch LCD as well as the RedMote. Side handle was attached but with no battery installed.

You could probably get another 25-30 minutes with a battery in the side handle.

needs to be made clear that the time you get out of the REDVOLT battery does indeed varies by what elements you have connected to the EPIC and what resolution/frame rate one is shooting at, as well as the speed of the fan, and of course also weather conditions, as in my travels and great exchange of HOT and COLD have also made a difference.

Will now time the charge time!
