will 4K 3d be actually 2 x 2K ? how's the math in that matter?

BTW... it is passive 3D. Active 3D just landed in the La Brea tar pits.

Jim

Aldey & I got treated to a sneak peak yesterday and we could not stop watching. You have to see it to believe it. I have NEVER seen better projection - from any projector - at any price point. I can't stop thinking about it. It was beyond stunning.

I can't wait to see it. Hell, I can't wait to buy it! Sounds amazing.

I was actually wondering something similar...would it be "8K" to deliver equally sharp 4K to each eye, as from what I've read passive creates an interlaced-like footage? Or just a super awesome and sharp 4K projector, with possibly different methods than any thing we've heard about?

Also curious...if others have had a chance to see it already, is it still in the R&D stage, or is it mostly set in stone (barring the everything is likely to change motto nad other changes to keep it up to date/surpassing competition by the time it's released) and waiting for the other RED products get out first before manufacturing/distribution?

I think I remember reading on here that it can do 4k 3D.

other method could be 4K @ 50 / 60 fps... or maybe it's a technology from a parallel universe....

If they're doing it like DLP, they're reversing polarity rapidly in the projector so we can wear passive glasses. Can't wait to hear if smaller studios like us can afford this.

things are really crankin at red these days! more great news. :)

Looking forward to upgrading my home cinema :-)

We have a very narrow target.... shoot 5K, post to 4K, deliver with REDray and display with the new RED projector, 2D and 3D. Easy stuff to understand.

Jim

Been building our entire future business model on this "narrow" focus ... and the projector was the only missing part... fucking eh guys... I love how EPIC is so last week now. I would hate to be your competitors.

Any other technology areas you guys feel like disrupting? cause there are many areas where they have been trickling out technology for years and we pay for crappy tiny incremental moves forward. one area I would really love to see red solve is archiving and long term storage at a reasonable cost. I know there is LTO but tape seems so well last century.

generating all this 5k material we need somewhere to store it reliably. there is one area where film bests everything else but its not cheap. long term archival

I might start telling conspiracy theorist to start staking out RED instead of Area 51 - This is just getting ridiculous.

+1 .
Thanks for this storm in reallity.

NOW... This is what I am talking about...;)

And all of a sudden the FUTURE of 3D looks... Well, BRIGHTER... ;)

Reading this makes me want to take a trip back to LA just to visit RED STUDIOS to see it for my self... ;)
