  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Pro Prime set FAQs

A hardcore tele zoom would be great. Look to the Optica Elite 120-520mm T3 for inspiration.

But primes are more important. 18mm next, then they should focus on bringing us 14mm, 21mm, 40mm and 135mm -- or something like that.

Agree that the wider primes are the most needed. Do you know where I could find out more about the Optica Elite 120-520 you mentioned?

Thanks-

Back in time long long ago, when I placed my deposits on the prime sets, my reservation numbers were 50, 51 or so. (Back then you actually assigned numbers, if you recall.) If you have shipped out fifty sets, why have I not been told that I can expect my lenses by "x" date?

Er... How did you get a number? They first came available to pre-order during NAB '07. That's when I ordered and I didn't get any sort of number in line or anything like that. Just a SO##### style order number.

Prime set reservations never had serial numbers back in the early preorder days. 18-85, 300mm, Red One - yes. Prime sets - nope, just the order date/time.

Brent, I was told my order #194, placed during NAB was to be one of the first 50 sets.

Word is though that the first 50 have been shipped....any idea when my order should be ready?

I ordered back during NAB two years ago, if I had gone with imperial I would have them by now, but I am waiting for metric, and they are just around the corner!

we just took delivery of set # 74. we placed deposit from day 1 with camera order(662)
also talked to Matthew Duclos yesterday. He is making a set of Delrin front caps for the RPP. even more importantly
is a new cap for the 300mm, it is too flexible and touches the front element

I personally use the Universal Mount and then run a 3/8 bolt up the center hole and then into the 3/8 hole that is on the Red collar. Also do the same for the 18-85 except I connect the bolt to a little 'C' shaped cup that has a hollow 3/8 insert hole in the bottom (you can probably get one machined for real cheap if you can't find one from an existing application) and let the lens rest on that 'C'. Works great and is another use for the good ole Universal Mount.
Hope that helps.

I just want to add- that is my personal solution not an official RED recommendation. But definitely does the job.
