RED Pro Prime set FAQs

any news on a delivery schedule
it is about time !!

Hey Mark we are delivering right now the lenses marked T1.9 to people that can't wait/don't care as they are cosmetic. As I mentioned in another post, we are also doing a few tweaks to the mount to allow them to fit on Arri 435's and of course engraving the next batch with the proper T1.8 markings.. that batch should be ready in a couple weeks.

Jarred,
thanks for your reply;
will there be an update on when to expect delivery by ordernr.
Mark

No answer means, they need to be sent to RED ?
And everybody is happy to do that and not be able to collimate them against a specific camera ?

If these lenses can be used on other cameras as well, they are sticking to the usual way of collimating and can be shimmed ?
Or are they RED zoom style and they are shimmed, but we are not allowed to the shims ?

yes the lenses are shimmed... and since we actually make the shims here this time, we would be happy to sell little packs of them.

I have posted before that the 1st 200 sets (about) will be shipped by June and all the orders from this week shipped by the end of Summer or early Fall.

Jim

So how many pre-NAB 09 orders were there? It's now July and I haven't even been notified on delivery or funds needed. I realize there was a delay for the back change and the T1.8 marking, but that awhile ago. At NAB, I was presented with quite a benefit to reserving that week, now I'm not sure what that advantage is if the window of release is delayed so much and (allegedly) going to be drastically shortened? Not trying to be a grouch or a pain, just feeling in the dark and confused on this matter.

EDIT: so now I'm wondering if your post was insinuating that ordering at NAB meant a late August/early Sep delivery? I was told repeatedly at NAB that being so early would put me at the head of Batch #2, which I was told would be early May. Even with the delay, that should have been June delivery. I guess I need to know how to re-calibrate my expectations, as of currently they are just adrift. Also I'd like to know what the window of delivery would be, back at NAB it was going to be at least 4 months

Shawn... over 50 sets have been sent out and you should see yours in the next 30 days. Production is now ramping up.

Jim

Excellent! Thank you Jim!

As I recall, Shawn has an early serial number. Is there any way I can get a ballpark on delivery for batch 2 #1000, #1500, #2000. I emailed Brian at Red but received no response.

There is come financial planning involved here so any help would be appreciated.

We hope to get caught up with all the orders placed by NAB in the next couple of months...

Jim,

We have an NAB set of RPPs coming, but I'm curious if we'll see an Optimo killer in the near future???

While never touted as the optimo 'killer' as it doesn't have the range, the 18-85 was sure touted as 'equal' to the Optimo back before it was released. How is it faring out in the field? I'm not seeing footage or reviews (except that one that compared it to a Cooke 18-100) here on Reduser.

A zoom that started at 100 and went to 250 could be an interesting companion to the RPPs, assuming they could get the looks to match sufficiently enough

Is Rouge close enough?

Is Rouge close enough?

From the glowing reports out of the SALTmines it seems that Angie has already got us hooked up. The Rouge versions of the Optimo line are roughly half the price (∼$20K) of the regular Optimos (∼$40K) and of similar (spectacular) quality.

FWIW, RED is already offering an 18-85mm Pro series zoom for $10K.

Cheers - #19

A hardcore tele zoom would be great. Look to the Optica Elite 120-520mm T3 for inspiration.

But primes are more important. 18mm next, then they should focus on bringing us 14mm, 21mm, 40mm and 135mm -- or something like that.
