  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

red pro 7" lcd!!!

From Big Jon:
"LCD RED PRO (7.0") - In internal testing with an estimated end of Summer '08 release."

Any news on this?

will this monitor resolve the cropping when playing back in 1080p? I understand that that setting is mostly for the HDSDI outputs, but it would be nice if you got the full picture in the onboard LCD as well.

isnt the resolution the same, just under 720p?

No. The cropping with 1080p playback has nothing to do with the LCD. Playback to the LCD / EVF isn't cropped anyway.

1080p cropping is due to a limitation on what the camera can process. Essentially it does a 1/4 scale of the 4K footage on playback by binning 4 of the bayer photosites together to make one RGB pixel. If you are shooting 4K and do a 1/4 scale, you get 2K (2048x1152). The camera doesn't have the horsepower to scale that to 1080p and do a good job of it, so it crops it to fit the 1920x1080 frame.

With Build 17, we're getting a 4XHD record mode that is 3840x2160. It's a bit smaller than 4K, but will give us clean down-scales to 1080p as well as un-cropped playback. Although, it is cropped from the 4K area at the time you frame and record your shot.

Same resolution, but all other specs much better.

Resolution: 1024×600
Response time: 30ms
Contrast: 400:1
Brightness: 1000 nits
Viewing angle: 130 degrees H, 110 degrees V
Power consumption: 2.8W

Thanks. I guess I should have realized that. Also, had I not grazed over the same resolution bit, I wouldn't have asked.

I think the LCD wont be off backorder for at least another couple of months. A hint from bigjon.. although everything changes in this game.

Big Jon's delivery schedule says:

LCD RED PRO (7.0") - In internal testing with an estimated end of Summer '08 release.

What kind of hint did he give you? The end of Summer is only a couple weeks away....
