Hey guys, this is my first post and i apologize ahead of time for its length.
I am new to the red world, although my interest in it is a few years running. I have however ran across a few things that I have some questions and concerns about. Later this year (around july) I will have a budget to purchase a camera. I am coming from a Canon background but I am looking into getting into the 4k+ realm and canons (to me) are just not impressive. Not impressive for the price point at least. I have a few canon glasses and looking to expand my glasses into the Zeiss, but more likely Schneider realm. (I like Schneider over zeiss).
Here is my issues, I am wanting to buy a complete or nearly complete setup. Buying used is perfectly ok with me. I have done a lot of research over the last few months and currently am more confused then what I started at as. My budget will be between 10k-15k, 15k being a stretch and sleeping on the couch to avoid a angry wife.
Here are somethings I am looking for and what I have found.
I would like 4k raw capability. 60fps + , 12 + stop, 10 bit or better. I am wanting to shoot cinematic films.
The scarlet is nice but it seems (even used) it will exceed my 15k stretch.
Used Red Ones would work, but many forums try to deter away from them because of end of life.
Other options include the Blackmagic Ursa, Sony F700, and Kineraw mini.
I do not like the look of the GH4, and canon 4ks
My perfect world (unlimited budget) would be Arri Alexa, Red Dragons, and phantom Flexes... however this is not a perfect world.
I was told to wait until NAB 2015 to really make my choice because of price drops and new product, but I have learned not to rely on that over the last few years.
Given my likes and my limitations can you provide me with any insight that u might have. I am open to suggestions and maybe avenues I have not seen or read.
Thanks guys.
