Is it possible with a RED-One camera in studio conditions, to run a RCA video cable from the camera to a TV, which could act as a monitor, before, during, and after shooting ??

I don't care about TV resolution. I just want to know if it is possible.

Thanks.

So, you guys are telling me....there is NO way to hook up a RED-One to a TV ?

Hooking it up via any HDMI cable to a LCD flat screen TV would be OK, but I'd like it to be a CRT television.

Come on. I can't believe there is not some way to achieve that. How about adapters, switchers, different cables, etc...?

I really want to be able to do it, because I have special effects I want to do via the RED-to-TV connection.

If anyone knows anymore about achieving this, please let me know.

Thanks.

George, have a look here: http://tinyurl.com/4q25dll

Christopher: There is more than one HDMI standard as I understand, and not all are supported by the RED One. It works on my Dell 24", but only ocassionally (when I wiggle the cable and chant nice things towards the monitor) on our home flatscreen.

OK, how do I find what HDMI "standard" IS supported by the RED-One?

How about this: Is there a way to hook up HDMI "out" from the RED-One to a computer monitor with an HDMI input?

.

You might be better going off the HD-SDI feed, and convert that to your TV display format with a box at the TV end?

OHHHH.... chanting.... why didn't that occur to me? If Yoga has prepared me for anything it had better be connecting electronics!

You need to downconvert the signal from either HDMI or HDSDI since ther is no composite or S-Video output on the Red One. Aja and Blackmagic make these downconverters but they are not cheap. I don't know of any other way of a standalone cable that can do what you are asking. Better off like others have said to connect it to a fltascreen if you have any and hope that the HDMI standard is compatible.

I have the AJA box Graeme linked and used it quite a bit the first 2 years I had my RedOne. Still comes out occasionally but not that often. If you just need it for one project just rent one as they are pricey to buy.
I would sell mine used for a reasonable price if that interests you.

Lots of downconverter choice, AJA, Blackmagic and RedByte Decimator

http://www.aja.com/products/converters/converters-hd-hd10md3.php might work - I've never tried it, but that's the sort of box you'd need.

Uh, sorry, but that won't work. I'm trying to SAVE money here, not spend almost as much as a RED on-camera monitor....:smile5:

OK, I'll forget using a standard CRT television and RCA cables, and go with a LCD TV or a PC monitor with HDMI inputs.

If I could run a HDMI cable from the RED-One to a LCD TV or PC Monitor that would work as well for me, IF, and I say, IF I can do it without an expensive converter.

Any further feedback would be welcome.

Thanks.

EIther HDMI to a monitor or HD-SDI to a monitor should work great - but with HDMI you've got to test first as not all monitors will play back the 720p from the RED. With HD-SDI I've not had issues. I'm using a Flanders Scientific monitor which works very well indeed over HD-SDI.

Are you also talking about LCD televisions with HDMI inputs? Would they work as well?

Is there a way of knowing whether a HDMI monitor is compatible with the RED-One "before" purchasing the monitor? If so, how?

The Flanders is, again, way to expensive for my purposes.

Thanks for all the help. It is appreciated.

Best suggestion is to canvas user opinion on which specific monitors work well with a RED One and are in whatever price range you specify.

I'd recommend either:
a. Hdmi cable like everyone else has been saying...

Or

B. It sounds like you might be looking for a standard def preview? If that is the case then i'd say redbyte decimator 2.
If that is "too expensive" then maybe try a datavideo, which is garbage by comparison but might work for hd-sdi to standard def.

Decimator +1 ... I'm pretty sure you could find an LCD for half the price though.
