  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red One Can't Be Destroyed!

Filming a well known Nascar driver going around the track with your Red = FUN
Watching a well known Nascar driver scraps the wall with your Red = BAD
Red escaping without a scratch = Priceless!!!

Hey, never said I opened one up. I have, however, been through airport security a number of times with the camera... :)

Great recovery, Brook .... I believe you...

TSA agents in these parts like to say, "Holy crap! What is that?.... Sir, we have some questions about your bag." And then I have to proceed to explain what it is, take everything out, demonstrate how it powers up as last call for my flight is announced, grrr....

Why are you carrying them through security? They are certainly robust enough to check as luggage, which is where they go when I travel.

Carry-ons are for things you need during your flight.

Back in the "There are only twenty of these in the world" days, we carried them on. Now we just duct-tape them to the side of the plane and assume they'll make it. :)

As of now and going forward, the camera will go into its pelican case and checked as luggage. Things have changed now that I can just call up RED and order a new camera. Last time I flew with RED a couple months back, we all thought it would still be 4 to 6 months before all the reservations were filled. So didn't want to take the chance of theft. And the anxiety factor was a bit higher when traveling with someone else's gear too. Don't care much for that. Now my attitude is a bit different... It's insured and I have RED and my insurance company on speed dial.

And I don't think I'm being too paranoid about the theft thing... I've had plenty of stuff stolen over the years out of checked baggage. Honestly, I worry more about my DSLR and consumer-level electronics being stolen because that's what the average thief will recognize.

the case of R1 certainly tough...
but what about the heat ? the heat from the machine inside it because of hours of shooting....any one ever encounter any fail because of it ?

and does any one ever experience any problem because of power fail ? once my red shut down brutally because I'm using the AC power and some guy unplug the wrong cable... so my red get an improper shutdown.... :angry2: can that cause any problem to the OS inside?
or maybe unstable electrical can make any damage on the board inside ? :shiftyph34r:

I shot a lot over the summer in temps over 100F / 38C, no failures. Direct and intense sunlight shining on the camera will cause it heat up a lot faster than ambient temperature. Keep the camera shaded and you should be fine. Beware of high humidity with the heat, especially if you decide to employ additional means of cooling like ice packs. Condensation and excessive humidity can be far more dangerous to your camera gear than the heat.

Sudden power loss should not affect the camera, but could possibly leave you with some corrupt data on your recording media. Unstable power can be a problem... Use a power conditioner. Or at least use some means of surge suppression.
