I found this picture on Flickr.com

Does anybody know who the filmmaker is?

I have a couple of questions for him!

Any help will be appreciated

Thank you

You guys are right...

It is me shooting surfing at Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz, California this past winter with one of my RED cameras and my Canon FD 150-600 f5.6L zoom with a Century PL mount. My 150-600 is 19 years old, but the glass is excellent, especially between f8 and f11 which is where I usually shoot sports and nature with the lens. ND filters are 40.5mm and with the PL mount conversion they screw onto the very end of the mount end of the lens. In shooting sports with that setup I usually shoot either 4k/29.97 or 3k/59.94.

We've even taken 4k nature close-up shots I shot with that setup and blown them up to IMAX and they came out excellent.

You can find small down-res QT samples of several of the shot sequences from that exact shooting session in the picture by visiting the Mammoth HD RED Footage Library at the link in my signature, and clicking into the Water Sports category. I also shot large amounts of the RED footage in multiple other categories in the MHD RED Footage Library.

Send me a PM if you have other questions about the rig. I'll be happy to answer them.

I'm interested in the 90˚ connector for the RED DRIVE that doesn't interfere with the power connector.

For that i just reversed how I would normally connect the drive. As you know, the drive cables have one straight end and one L end. I went into the bottom of the drive with the straight end and used the L end on the camera back. Cabling it that way seemed to give a bit more room on the back of the camera for the battery power LEMO to slide by and into its bus.

Double L drive cables would be excellent because you could turn the drive around in the RED Cradle and L it away from the camera body, then simply go into the camera back with the other L. That would also eliminate the straight down connector on the drive which as you know can be a real hassle when tilting the camera backward as it is sitting on the ground for low angle shots.

Now that I use the ET Shock Mount most of the time, rather than the RED Cradle, I'd really like to have a double L LEMO cable for the drive - the straight out connector can be a hassle, and limit some of the creative ways you can mount the Shock Mount.

if I use my L plug to body, it blocks the Power plug...

how are you doing that???

I plug in the L drive cable first, and the straight connector power LEMO sneaks by on the left side of the drive L cable. That particular RED camera of mine (i own three) was RED #8x (X upgrade replacement for RED #8). Maybe the orientation of the drive cable bus was at a slightly different angle in those first X replacement cameras.

Hi Gibby,

The ET shock mount is not on sale yet..how do u get one ? early test unit ?

edit : saw your early post..indeed the beta unit. Thanks..hope it will be available soon

I've had success on some camera bodies with plugging the 90˚ connector in there, but it tends to only work with the older style LEMO cables that didn't have that gigantic "RED" boot on them. All I have sitting around are the newer thicker logo'd versions, hence the difficulty.

Good point. That's the answer then - all my cables are the older original versions which used a bit slimmer LEMO boots.
