  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED lenses Sigmas?

it's been discussed before. Speculation is that they use the sigma glass, and get them re-housed in England.

In that case zoom lenses must be much more difficult to re-house, considering the price difference with the 300. Or the 300 is just a steal.

Hi,

The 18-50 is without a doubt a Sigma. I have not actually seen the others but the photo of the 50-150 zooming the wrong way was a give away.

The feel of the conversion, would indicate a new player to me.

The 300 is a prime lens so you don't have to make a new helicoid for the zooming section. As you say it's easier then doing the zooms. I believe the 300 is probally a Sigma as it is the only brand using the 46 (?) mm drop in filters. Canon and Nikon are 50 some mm filters.

What about Abakus people, the one that make the B4 to Pl adaptor ?

Les Zellan from ZGC, New Jersey, US, finally bought Cooke in July, 1998.
If it could be for sell today it will be too expensive to buy.
But who knows?
Panavision did rehousing Leica designed lenses with ELCAN (Ernst Leitz Canada) today owed by a Raytheon Company.
There are four Academy Awards won by the Panavision Promo-L lens series.
Nikons or Canons you can't get in a huge stock for rehousing.
Maybe Sigmas you can get.
But Sigma is not in Nikon or Canon quality and with Leica or Cooke you should not even try to compare.
So what is left?
Today the best option is get enough stock from Leica AG in Germany.
How?
If you have enough money and a good concept you could try to join
Leica Cinema GmbH in Zürich
and make quite a good lenses out of Leica Wetzlar designed glass.
