I never thought I could produce cinema quality imagery without spending an absolute fortune. RED changed all that. They inspire content creators like myself to go out and capture the world as we see it, to tell untold stories, to pour our hearts onto the cinema screen. Thank you RED for paving the industry and putting amazing tools in our hands.

Here's my latest reel. All shot on Zeiss Contax!

I absolutely love my job and I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Looks great Chris, what housing were you using for underwater?

For the mermaid shots, the agency hired a dive team based out of LA. They only had a housing big enough for their Blackmagic 4K CC (believe it was GATES). I didn't want to force an epic into their housing since that could be a recipe for disaster. They didn't have a wireless video feed either, which made everything take a lot longer. I had to tell the dive team exactly what I wanted, they would shoot a take, come up to the surface, and play it back. TIME CONSUMING! Thankfully, there weren't a whole heck of a lot of actual underwater shots, and the mermaid was a professional mermaid, so it streamlined it somewhat. It took us roughly 6 hours for the underwater and above water sequence at the pool location. I kept the above water shots also on the BM as it's a dream sequence, so I wanted it to look consistent. Shot on Contax glass. Those are the only shots in my reel not on the Epic.

The lighting was mostly shiny boards and 2 1.2K HMI's. Bouncing sun at the right time makes for some pretty cool imagery. Timing is everything hehe :-)

The other underwater shots with the boy was all done with the Epic and MoVI. Since I don't own an underwater housing, I had an idea for a poor-mans version. I had the client pick up a square aquarium 3 feet x 3feet x 3 feet which was just big and deep enough for the MoVI and my AC. I wanted full pant/tilt control wirelessly which is why I wanted to use the MoVI. Aquariums are VERY buoyant so we had to put quite a few sandbags inside it as well as having my AC stand inside holding the MoVI, and I controlled it wirelessly. Worked out very well.

Nice work Chris.
Isn't it nice to love what you do so much that you don't have to work for a living?
Keep up the good work!

I know right! :-)
