I was surprised when I read this. I don't usually go on too many other forums, in fact I almost never got to Scarlet User anymore because I've been able to find out about almost anything I need help with here, but is this kind of thing common on other forums. Not just RED bashing but the general uninformed slander of a company or product. Cinematography.com is on a real name system as well.

I don't know, maybe it wouldn't have been so shocking if the title of the thread was "Inconsistencies between RED marketing and product performance" instead of just "I hate RED"

Oh well I guess you can't please everyone. lol As always Mr. Mullen provides the voice of reason. Such a gentleman. When Bausch & Lomb brought out the Super Baltars some film stars (not all female) had it written in their contract that they were to be filmed with the earlier Baltars as the "Supers" showed their age too much on the big screen. This may be a Hollywood myth but I don't think so. So our ranting friend should just chill out and fall behind the times and to the wayside like an aging actor of yore.

Red, as a culture as much as a camera company, seems to be quite divisive simply in the way they choose to engage with the community. Although this is great for those who throw themselves in to the process and (perhaps in a too-exhaustive way) will debate the minutia of detail, particularly over the yet-to-be-released Scarlets and Epics; there’s the flip side of people who are completely against this style of business, favouring the traditional ‘we release, you buy’ philosophy.

I’m sure Red’s feelings won’t be hurt by someone saying ‘I hate Red’, they seem to have plenty of work on their plate already. And as I’ve heard many times on this site regarding the stuff that really isn’t constructive – Nobody is forcing people to buy Red, you either do, or you don’t.

That's a pretty funny thread - he's screaming about RED not having the measured resolution some mythical cosited 4K camera (which would be extremely impractical) even though RED have been totally upfront about the kinds of resolutions their cameras produce... And he has obviously never worked with REDCODE judging by this comment:
I don't think it has, though. It's made (extremely) heavily compressed 12-megapixel bayer data practical, but that was never really that difficult in any case - because there are major caveats with it.
in response to David saying that it works. Yeah, don't actually try it yourself or listen to a respected, professional DOP, just keep making stupid claims!

That post is just pure trolling...

They have some points. During announcements in the RECON section, I find myself skimming through pages of "Jim is a God" "RED rules" and then a few more pages of "me too" (I Have been guilty of one of these once or twice".

The noise can get pretty bad. And sometimes I miss info because of it.

The guys at c.com have always been this way.. And we've always been "our way". But they do not seem to be having a very large effect on RED's sales.

I suggest we just let this one go. Let's show we no longer need to get into this.

Like David says, time to move on.

I hate Reds... In fact, I hate both my Reds. They suck... the very time out of my watch. I also hate Reduser, 'cause it sucks the remaining time from my days.

Red is a victim of the whack-a-mole conspiracy. Stick your head too far above the crowd in any field of endeavor and you become a target.

Michelangelo had a saying too "wise men say forgiveness is divine but never pay full price for late pizza"

I should point out that I am talking about the ninja turtle not the painter....I know its not really relevant......well unless you relate it to RED's delayed delivery dates....but then again with RED its like they were late delivering pizza so they decided just to spend the extra time to eventually give us a 5 course world class italian feast for basically the same price as the pizza.....ok I haven't slept in a long time I should give up on analogies now

If you hate them so much I run a rescue home for abandoned cameras....

Methinks the guy has never shot RED One. Most of his complaints center around marketing and he seems to have a fear of software and firmware upgrades. So I guess he should, by the same logic, also have an equal hatred for those 3-chip cameras or other panavision RGB-stripe cameras that like to triple their true resolution numbers to represent one count for each RGB element. 1920x1080 * 3 does not make 6.2 megapixels, no matter how you measure that recorded image. But I digress...

It's actually a love/hate relationship, and all the emotions in-between.:emote_rainshower:
