  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Add an extra cf slot while you are at it.

Add an extra cf slot while you are at it.

Everyone has added a lot of good things. I have 2 high on my list that have already been mentioned and 1 that has not really been touched on.

mentioned
1. A weather dependable camera ***Both COLD and HOT temperatures***
2. 2k scaled overcrank.

not mentioned

The CF module is problematic. I have heard of and seen bent pins as it is a common problem. The module is sloppy and does not accurately guide the CF card in very well.

Add an extra cf slot while you are at it, and it would help a lot of things.

I just read this list and did not see it? Did I miss it? Where is it?

I have seen some cameras that shut off when inserting the CF card also.

I'd like to see built in Chromakey / uploadable BG for Previs work. (not nearly as important as some of the other features mentioned, but eventually down the road, it would be very nice.) I hear SI-2K can do that.

1. 1080p 4:4:4 dual hd-sdi
2. 1080 4:2:2 single HD-SDI
3. Individual outputs
4. Weather (Remember Tromsø outdoor for a week in January)
5. IF the CF module have problems, it needs to be solved...
6. 1:1 focus check through HD-SDI or on the LCD/EVF. You should be able to pan the focus area in the frame, though. A 3/5/9/11 or whatever quickchoice
would be good, though and maybe a more accomodative solution:
Focus middle left/middle right/ centre (adding upper and lower variations of the three + ectremes... -;)

Cheers!

Would be great to have a "overlay" function of an allready recorded clip or a freeze frame of it over the life picture for match cut composing, matching angles,...

one minute of 4k 100fps on an internal storage with transfer to CF or Reddrive after the shot.

my 2 cents

Everyone has covered so much so I won't repeat but...

The 4K Display is number one.
- I really would like to see what I've shot at the resolution and dynamic range I shot it.

The 4K player/projector is number two.

- I really would like my audience to see what I have edited and added all the post work to in the resolution and dynamic range I've shot it.

These two items really complete the loop. This is more important than the red mini or anything else. Without these two, its very very hard to show anyone what's so great simply due the expense of the Sony Projector plus the special player.

You mean a 4K display in your editing suite after you've converted the RAW footage through REDCODE? Or an on-set live de-Bayered 4K image? Because there isn't much need for live display resolutions on set to exceed 1080P. I'm trying to think of a practical reason for looking at a live 4K image. Maybe catching a dead pixel, that's the only one I can think of.

Wishes:
- high quality audio limiter (switchable)
- in-camera clip trimming
- time-lapse
- Sound Deviced-type audio imput level knobs (instead of menu based)

Am with you with your wishes, except the trimming. Its a camera, not an editor. The datarate is so low, I don't see a need to cut in camera and save space. If you're tough on space I could imagine a "delete file/take" option with 2 confirmation requests, same like formatting.

The SI runs completely on a PC as you know. It can have other features that I wouldn't see in the camera without an additonal PC connected to it.
But exactly that comes down to the tethered operating of the camera. Maybe some kind of wireless connection that transmits 1 fps or so and can be processed on REDwireless.

What I'd like to see, if not previsouly mentioned, is a custom grodun glass. Like a PSD or layered tiff, or with embedded alpha, that can display a self-made format or combinations of various of them.
We once had a shoot with a dutched framing all the time and we had to superimpose a self-made picture to check the framing.

Only possiblity in-camera would have been a custom-groundglass acid-worked by arri for a solid price.
This can now be done with a file!

How about a set of PL-mount 1.34X anamorphics?

Hmmm... But I wonder what the true benefit would be? At 1.3X the optical effects of anamorphic glass will be quite subdued in comparison with 2:1 anamorphic glass. RED already has plenty of resolution and shooting 1.33:1 anamorphic won't give us much, if any, more resolution to work with. We would just be cropping the sides rather than cropping the top and bottom in most cases.

Now, I'd like to see a set of RED 2:1 anamorphics and dedicated "anamorphic" shooting modes like 3072x2304 (4:3), 2880x2304 (2.5:1) or 2708x2304 (gives 2.35:1 when horizontally stretched in post), or others that would be useful.

I would think the 3Kx2.3K 4:3 mode could be useful no matter what and could possibly offer some frame rate benefits, maybe 42 or 48 fps?
