RED future...

Which is bigger, a square or a rectangle? This depends of course on the dimensions of each since it is possible to fit a square inside a rectangle or vice-versa if the proportions are correct.

The bottom line is that one is not "better" than the other, it just depends on your ratio of choice and maximizing resolution from your gear. A 4x3 sensor is a complete waste of resolution if you are shooting non-anamorphic widescreen movies. Since my suspicion is that this is the way the large majority of RED shooters will be using the camera, I think it would be a very poor choice to incorporate a 4:3 sensor in a future release. Absolutely it would be beneficial for anamorphic or 4:3 shooting, but I see those applications being a small slice of the overall RED pie. Just my two cents.

If that small slice happens to be some of the biggest (Transformers) or the best (There will be blood) films being made, then its a slice that's worth taking very, very seriously indeed.

Yes indeed. Will be interesting to see who comes out with 1.6x anamorphics first. Or should I say who will be willing to stop using the existing 2x anamorphics. If ever. And will the 1.6x be cool enough to make the blue flares that are so overused now and sometimes put in post.

The Phantom HD high speed camera is really amazing and worth mentioning. The sensor is CMOS. 600 asa! Decent DR. Does 1,000 fps at 1080! And the sensor is even taller than it is wide! It's huge. Could totally use anamorphic glass. Where did that incredible sensor come from anyways? Seems like you could totally use it for 24fps as well.
