We have stuff in the works that would scare you.
I really like the sound of that.

In the beginning, some said that RED was a scam. Now some say that RED is a one trick wonder. I have said that "the 1st is the worst".

Maybe not us, but don't forget, the competition is reading here too. ;-)You won't scare us.

I suspect (wonder) Mr. Jannard doesnt require an assistant. I do believe he actually reads all thisJust noticed I started writing that comment at like 7:30est, before I opened my emails only to post it just before 10... I really need a new assistant, emails are such a time vacuum...
Please don't be emotional.
The major reason Red One was welcomed, as far as I see it, was not necessarily the 4K thingy, as anything above or including HD would have worked or sufficed at that time. The real reason was PRICE - A relatively affordable camera with reasonable resolution.
Even today, I would consider price to be a major point.
Joofa
I would be willing to bet they fired up a FF35 6k++ sensor, and got well over 24fps if they "only" did so on an Epic body.
Only one way to know. Jim, can you let us see a sample or two of your most recent work?![]()
The fact is that currently the M-X sensor has a combination of resolution, dynamic range and frame rates that is not matched by any sensor ever made for mass production. I'm not even aware of a military or engineering one-off that beats it. And it is only our second sensor. I am also seeing what's coming...
As for the sensor industry... it is changing very rapidly. I'd be surprised if Joofa's vision of how things work applied to what we are doing. We certainly aren't running our program the way the others do...
Jim
Well I was one of them
When Jim first announced I was hugely sceptical, in fact I said that it was a great idea to set up a company and take deposits on a camera and then close without delivering.
Jim and I had a "minor disagreement" at NAB in 2006, he thought that I had been rubbishing him and in fact I'd been rubbishing the idea of delivering a camera that was starting from scratch by November of that year.
Anyway, that was then....
I didn't know Jim's background at the time.
I have since said many times that RED and Jim in particular have turned the film business on its head and not just with their cameras.
We wouldn't have all the new PL mount lenses we have now if it wasn't for RED.
Alexa would be a dream on the horizon to be delivered in a couple of years if not for RED
Sony wouldn't have cut their prices on the F35 and the 9000PL if RED hadn't existed.
I could go on and on, particularly in the area of 3D but I won't
Things change and we have to live with and welcome that change.
So thank you RED for bringing some excitement back into the film business.
In the beginning, some said that RED was a scam. Now some say that RED is a one trick wonder. I have said that "the 1st is the worst".
So which is it? Is RED likely to last?
I guess this post is to say that we have more in development than we know what to do with. Our sensor program (the heart of a camera company) is way beyond my wildest expectations. We have stuff in the works that would scare you. I am shocked. Every day I wake up, the realities of what we dreamed are becoming a reality... and more. It is pretty surreal. EPIC (a nuclear reactor in a matchbox) is just the beginning. Hard to believe... but true.
Obsolescence obsolete. All the things we are doing forward work with what we are doing now. That was the concept. That is real today.
I thought I saw the future in 2005 when the decision to build the RED ONE was conceived. I also thought that was a big plan. While I guess it was... I see a much more advanced future now. Stay tuned. We have just warmed up the engine.
Jim
Jim Jannard, whenever I see a post like this it feels so relevant towards everything Steven Johnson has to say in 'where good ideas come from'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NugRZGDbPFU&feature=related
The way RED has developed is like the perfect example of what he tells us in those 4 minutes if I see it correct. I feel you have an extraordinairy gift for piecing stuff together to get it done beyond regular dreams.
My filmschool teacher ones said to me: "some of the most brilliant minds in our society excel at listening too who-ever (doesn't mather who it is). They do not let those people de-rail themselves from there track, but they also notice when there is something worthy what some have to say. That is a great value for managers". That is exactly how I feel about your open attitude for example here on REDuser.
I think Joofa is the secret sensor designer. The back and forth with Jim is just a ruse to throw us all of track.
Funny my original message got deleted and censored. What did I say so wrong? Hope they don't ban me again.
Joofa
Dj Joofa said:So why don't those sensor guys post here? The Red employees that post here don't seem to be sensor designers, unless I'm mistaken.
