  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED future...

Jim Jannard, whenever I see a post like this it feels so relevant towards everything Steven Johnson has to say in 'where good ideas come from'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NugRZGDbPFU&feature=related
The way RED has developed is like the perfect example of what he tells us in those 4 minutes if I see it correct. I feel you have an extraordinairy gift for piecing stuff together to get it done beyond regular dreams.

My filmschool teacher ones said to me: "some of the most brilliant minds in our society excel at listening too who-ever (doesn't mather who it is). They do not let those people de-rail themselves from there track, but they also notice when there is something worthy what some have to say. That is a great value for managers". That is exactly how I feel about your open attitude for example here on REDuser.

So why don't those sensor guys post here? The Red employees that post here don't seem to be sensor designers, unless I'm mistaken.

They're not allowed out. Too much dust and static outside. Jim's contracted them to live in a bubble until 2030. They're fed through tubes.

Funny. However, if Red's incessant claims about the superiority of their technology are right then I find it mildly amusing that those guys are nowhere to be seen!

+1 FOR RED PRO 4K PROJECTORS

+1 FOR RED PRO 4K PROJECTORS

BIG SURPRISE AT NAB? PLEASE BE A RED PRO 4K projector for under $75K

I think that is highly unlikely but it would be totally awesome (I will be in the market for a 4k projector in the coming months).

So you are mildly amused, I think the world can live with that.

Joofa... some contributors to the new sensor inventions have posted here. You just have no idea what you are looking for.

Weirdly after owning a red one for almost three years I still feel like I'm looking into the future when I view my (still M sensor) footage. Can't image how futuristic it's going to feel once the Epic arrives, for Jim and company to be looking another generation or 2 beyond that must be mind boggling. Thanks for the ride.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your response. As I said before I could be mistaken. So can you kindly identify the individuals?

Sincerely,

Joofa

Now why would he want to do that?

Jim already said that some of them post here, so I don't see what is there to hide? Furthermore, I'm not sure that sensor designer is somebody an employer would like to hide from the rest of the world as you seem to be suggesting.

It is a curiosity that certain employees like Graeme, Stuart, Deanan, etc. are all well known to us while the sensor team, amongst vast other Red employees are unknown to us. I mean it's fine, it's just curious.

Or may be Red sensor team are perhaps not direct employees and Red has some sorts of licensing arrangement with some IP supplier - basically somebody does it for Red. Might explain some of the delays Red is always having in its products.

Well, Jim said contributors not employees so we don't know precisely what that means. Sensor design is a pretty esoteric specialty and most of the top people probably work at sensor design firms and fabs. It's entirely possible that Red has that work done on a contract basis so they wouldn't normally identify themselves. It is also entirely possible that Jim simply hired the best directly and they work quietly.

There are off the shelf sensor designs that have been announced with some of the features of the epic sensors, but we don't know if or what additional features are red specific if the red sensor is made by one of them. But does it really matter? Red is clearly on the leading edge of sensor development with a heavy emphasis on staying there and the resources to make it happen. All good for us!
