  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED FOCUS

Thanks Mitch

I know all about the other devices - I just need to know what's extra cool about RED's! but can't wait much longer to make a decision unless the RED Focus is unique in some way which makes it worth waiting for! Hope that makes sense...

So no one from RED want to comment - even to say you can't say?

Hey there Jarred

I've decided I need to have a collimator of my own soon, and just about to buy a competitor unless your Red Focus "most exciting thing" is really something uniquely "got-to-have"!!

Also, will there be interchangeable RED Focus mounts to collimate RED's smart Canon and Nikon mounts - and importantly how much will they cost?

Regards
Eric

Red is tipping the industry over. I love it..
1500 vs 2700...
no question on which to get.

im over the inflated prices of the industry.
thank god RED has a problem child attitude.

Well, it's probably a while away, and I think I need one quite soon. So I need a reason to wait apart from price!

It's gone quiet again...

RED Focus is probably a ways off...

I highly recommend the IBE NULL+Target solution from AbelCine. Also, I have to highly recommend the Optitek Optimator. You should contact Jacek and ask about the Optimator, he had some pretty good pricing at NAB and the Optimator has the ability to change mounts.

I personally own the NULL+Target and it's great, but will get expensive if I stick with it and have to buy a NULL lens for each mount. I saw both the Optimator regular and Pro models at NAB and I was very impressed with them. i like the reticle image more so than the typical siemens star in the NULL system. The Pro version of the Optimator is not necessary for most users, but for anyone setting camera mounts that need to be shimmed or for rental houses -- it's the same thing, but has an additional micrometer so you can tell how far off the mount is so you know how many shims to stack up. It's for camera systems without an adjustable back focus.

Thanks Jeff

I do know about the competitors, and if I don't hear from RED soon about the unique features, if any, of the RED Focus then will go with one of them.

Just wish Jarred would either let us know what he was hinting at, in which case I can decide to wait or not. Or just say he can't let us know at the moment. That way I can move on.

Focus is still out a bit.. the (optional) software that goes along with it is still being fine tuned.

Canon and Nikon mounts will not be offered at first.

It comes with software? That's new :-)

heh heh heh... glad some one caught it. It doesn't come with it though.. and is not required.. its an optional software program that not only works with the RED FOCUS, but also tests and maps out all your lenses :)

I'm intrigued. Tell me more :-)
