Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
So far as I know rolling shutter is still used so its important that both sensors scan in the same direction for 3D, flipping the SDI out or LCD wont cure any 3D scan alignment issues.
Since these features (other than shutter scan direction) have been in the Red One from very early on, it's clear that Red already know about the importance and will implement them when they can.
In the R1 the image is flipped on all monitors, and there is a metadata tag to flip it in post, which is very easy to flip back with a single checkbox if desired.
As long as your mirror rig has the cameras properly oriented and both sensors scan from top to bottom (or vice versa) rolling shutter 3D problem is essentially eliminated. Output image flip is simply for operation, rig alignment and other practical uses. Not to speak out of school, but from knowing many (very busy, very conscientious ) REDheads I would say that these features have not yet been implemented because they have other more highly prioritized things to do first. Not everyone with EPIC is shooting 3D. I know, crazy right?
