Now that the E ND PL mount is avail for both Raptor and Komodo where is the info on it? Can it be controlled by the Red Control app? Can it go to completely clear? I think we want one for our helicopter gimbal but need basic info before buying.

I was hoping to see this $1000 cheaper. With proper cage and eND mount on V-Raptor, It's starts creeping into the XL pricing territory.

And that's if you exclusively use PL. If you shoot with EF or LPL, you would have to theoretically buy the other adaptors, that's if they make them. Agreed though, the cartridge system, even though it's the best fix for now, is too expensive.

That’s a sales technique by design. Apple does it too. Low point of entry, but upgrades are expensive, so it gets you thinking might as well step up to the next model.

except the next model is massive and not as mobile. I literally put the raptor in my camera backpack when i travel. That would be a nightmare with the XL

when you say “massive” and a nightmare, what do you mean?

I think it is 8Lbs and nearly 8” with PL mount. Don’t get me wrong, lighter is better for hiking, but I’d be hard pressed to describe the XL as massive.

A lot of people thought the Ranger was the same size as the Alexa classic, but it was like maybe 2inches longer than a slimmed down standard DSMC2. And it fit all of the standard pro gimbals like the free fly movi and Ronin 2.

Depends how you shoot. My built up Raptor is pretty much as big as a an XL with PL mount,15mm LWS bridge plate and breakout power box.

But you're right, I wouldn't put an XL on DJI RS 3 Pro.

Traveling with an XL would be a non issue though. It'll fit into a Pelican air 1535 fairly easily. Can't do that with Sony or Arri.

Basically, yes it won't work on a DJI RS3 Pro. That's a major one for me. And i'd rather have it on me in a personal bag when flying. Sometimes that free carry on has to be thrown into checked bags because there is not enough overhead space on planes. For me this is a game changer, and another reason why the Raptor was my first camera from RED. It was flagship quality in a small form factor. Now if only the next model can have the e-nd under the RF mount. Fingers crossed.

Good points

But you have to swap out the ND and clear filters? You can't just dial in from clear to ND. Not great.

not great? imho its disgraceful.
making a camera in 2023 without built nd and the only offer is mount with a slot? really?
im not even gonna talk about egregious pricing.

I'm happy to see the stop range is the same as Raptor XL. Would have been cool if you didn't have to swap out the cartridge to get clear, but I don't think it would be possible otherwise, if so I'd love to see that mechanism. I guess kippertie strata does it somewhat, but it's not electronic, and no data pass through. The cost was expected, but also note that an EF mount for Alexa mini LF cost $2100, and that's just a regular mount.

yeah because their built-in nd system comes with the camera

I think it's overpriced, but if i can use my full range of Cooke s4 glass on it, i'll bite.
