Strictly from the point of view of a colorist, my feeling is that whatever is going on in the Alexa optical path, it kind of feels like a 1/4 promist. I know technically, other things are going on, but it has that feel to me. And I'd also have to say I like the look very much, but it's in there whether you want it or not.

Agreed. Likely not as strong as a 1/4 though. Maybe more in the 1/8 range perhaps? I know Evin's done some interesting comparisons with various filters.

Why wouldn't it? Isn't that obvious?

I have some 8K 65mm 5-perf scans and the answer is the same too. We did some interesting things back when my primary task was a Digital Colorist. On The Ring for instance we employed a density contrast adjustment to really thicken things up and push the shadows down. A nice broad image. We did the same on X-Men 2, Daredevil, and here and there on Riddick.


More or less without playing too coy what I'm saying is with the images I'm getting out of Dragon I strongly feel I can do pretty much anything S35 ever did right. The sensor has character that some enjoy. Some are looking for more camcorder like performance. I get that desire. But if we're talking about making "digital films" and I think Dragon has got the juice we need. It works and handles oddly similarly in a variety of ways. At least to me. But, hell. I'm insane. Don't listen to me
