  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4.) Quirky idea - I was just checking out a dbeta deck and had a thought. Would it be crazy to offer a "key inhibit" switch to prevent accidentally bumping buttons during filming? I've never seen this on a camera, but I think it would be very useful.

I was thinking the same thing. It is a feature that I could use during handheld work when I have to cradle the camera or work in confined spaces. Thanks guys for the renders. Really does help us out with the possible physical uses of the camera.

Good god, there are so many options that are going to be possible.

I'm so glad my wife is letting me sell our house, because this is going to get addictive (read:expensive).

Damn you Jim Jannard and God bless you at the same time. :)

For this reason it would really be better as an accessible switch rather than a menu setting, so that you could activate it immediately after hitting RECORD. See any dbeta deck for reference. I'd imagine you would always leave 'key inhibit' on except for when you are changing camera settings - like the safety on a gun. This would prevent accidental recording between takes, which I seem to be an expert at. :(

A "button Lock" would be great. The have them on ARRI cameras and keep a person out of a lot of trouble.

Alex, key inhibit sounds great (-like a safety on a gun-- nice association:D ). At one point or another all active shooters have known the "double clutch". I think though with the "as yet to be revealed feature sets" will be a very intuitive way of letting us know when the camera is in run or not.

Have a good one Alex!:)

1.) Will the shoulder mount be able to slide forward for balance?
Yes, the shoulder pad slides in its dovetail. You'll notice that every picture that shows the lower rail is only of the left side of the camera. The right side is where the slide lock is [or so I've drawn from previous discussion].
2.) Can the EVF be mounted further forward (for the obvious reasons)?
I expect so... it looks like there's some sort of sliding apparatus built into the EVF mount [I am probably wrong here].
3.) Can't help myself - could the funky 'top hat' that sits above the camera have one additional mounting point just in front of the handle mount? This would be very handy for EVF, mic mount, etc. And yes, this will ruin the lovely symmetry and look stupid.... but....
The handle could be mounted one point farther back to allow for this.

Thanks Brook. My basic setup will be with the RED zoom, mattebox, and follow focus - all of which move the center of gravity pretty far forward. I'd imaging that you'd want the handle mounted at the center of gravity, kind of where it is presently. Also if the shoulder pad was roughly set at the center of gravity, certain physical realities (like my head) would push the EVF even further forward, effecting the balance again. All of this makes me think that a front extension on the "funky top hat" would still be ideal, particularly for mounting the EVF.

I guess one could just solve this center of gravity stuff by V-locking a bunch of batteries at the back, eh, :) ... Time to sleep....

I would think to keep the camera tight (short) and balanced the EVF will indeed need to be placed forwards. Maybe the solution is a short rod on top on the EVF side to attach it to. Which brings me to a question I asked Jim at IBC. I'm a left eye shooter, and like with some Arri 16mm cams, I want to be able to place the EVF on the right side of the camera. I was told this would not be a problem. My worry is, seeing the camera close to being finalized, won't there be too many cables on the right side of the camera for it to fit on someone's left shoulder ? (I hope not). I like to keep my other eye open and would prefer not to have the camera in front of me.

Cheers,
Damien

Brain-sync! I guess you were already working on updating the website as I posted :-)

Thanks for the pictures. Love 'em!

Another nice feature on the full edit DigiBeta decks is that on the push buttons, you can actually assign which buttons are inhibited by the key inhibit switch. So if there's a button you want to keep live, you can!
