  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I really liked the old packages that are no longer selling. It also made a little bit of difference in the price. Wish there still was that option. But the new camera builder site looks nice, very clean and a good overview of what you need or get in the new packages.
 
Nice execution. Very much like the twirl down menus revealing package details.

One thought. If people are kitting out a bit more and purchase something like the DSMC2 BASE PACKAGE and want say the DSMC2 RED TOUCH 7.0" LCD or say any other Expander, it might be useful for a dedicated page to add "additional displays" and "additional expanders/modules". Maybe on the Add-Ons page even. Or something like Add-Ons - Power.


This very much simplifies the package process. For those who want to add more than what the package contains it's a bit tricky. Perhaps the overall answer is to point them to the various sections of the RED Store Online to add additional gear even?
 
Slick. Nice work! IMHO, there's room for a little more complexity on the way through, it's gotta be a major purchase for the average customer. Instead of accessory packages, for example, a page of monitoring/control options, a page of I/O & power options, and a page of rigging & handles.... well, now that I type it, that looks hella complicated. :/ Must be hard to find the perfect balance

Been posting on here for awhile that we were moving away from bundled packages as people preferred the flexibility to add/drop items over a small monetary discount…

Yeah, first iteration of this (internally) had more sections as well as more products per section. But it became a really slippery slope. Where do you draw the line? The whole intent of this was to use our existing data to see what customers were putting together as packages, then take those high frequency pairings to create packages.

And we did have more add on pages, it just really took us off the rails of the intent of this builder. Create a intuitive, simple process for a new-to-the-ecosystem customer to get a functional package.

Then from there, they can add/drop from cart then select from normal store process items to refine.

Think ordering a Happy Meal here, not preparing a five course Michelin chef dinner : )

Our original ARMORY for the DSMC “1” line had exactly what you are asking for. And our usage rate was miserable. So, we reached out to folks to who abandoned the purchase within that process to ask why. Same answer every time - too complicated to understand what you needed to make a functional package. And people ended up getting a kit that was a grab bag… Or just flat out giving up.
 
Sergio, copy that. V-lock gives little more flexibility because you can go RED or third party power sources... So, that was the consensus for "if we had to pick one" for a package...
 
This is great! but.... just few thoughts ;)


It would be handy to have somewhere in the process the as example 4.7 inch touch in the list of things but a option to upgrade to the 7 inch (with showing the price difference) or vice versa. The same could be done with the mini mags. Same with batteries and show approximate runtime...
Also in the end screen (summary) it could show all the contents of the package with "ticks" which outputs / options are chosen (XLR, SDI, HDMI etc.). It could show record times (at max resolution) here as well and battery runtime (brain specific)

These thoughts are all mainly for first time orders...
It's overwhelming at first I used RU, but for non Gear-Headz these options for packages is a lot easier!

very helpful, i'd still like to see a lego-style builder so you can deck it out and see what you're configuration looks like :)

Understood. Maybe add a "Small form Guerrilla " package to the mix? With the smaller 4.7" monitor, Redvolt XL's , charger, new side handle?
 
I noticed the motion mount options were missing from the builder (or perhaps I am not having a smart day).

Daniel, please read my posts earlier in thread. Not every product is posted in builder, that would be overwhelming...
 
i think this is great for all the people, especially off reduser that ask what do i need? whats the real cost?
and for people that know what's up you just ala carte.
i do think for raven, it has a specialty market and there should be something just like the vlock i/o pkg that was first offered but just add a second 120 card and a reader.
good upgrade.
 
I think it's better for new comers in RED "ecosystem". Items you need and prices are easier to understand.

I agree with the approach taken - BUT - I think you will find that MANY people will use this instead of even looking through your catalog - so ... I suspect you might see a drop in sales in the items not listed in the builder.

Maybe ... in each category ... there is a button for ADDITIONAL OPTIONS - and that button would just open a list - with hyperlinks - to items not highlighted in the builder -

Just thinking out loud here .... but because it is "clean" and "easy to use" - and most important - "less overwhelming" - I think you will start to see all your traffic move to the builder - away from the actual shop listings.
 
Looks great!

Quick heads up though. I tried to build a quick test package on iOS, and accidentally added the wrong lens mount. When I tried to remove it, it instead added a second. I repeated, and it added a third.

I then tried leaving the page and coming back, and finally it allowed me to remove it, however after it removed one, the button changed back to "add" even though there were still two in my cart. I had to wait until I finished the entire build to remove them manually.
