Interested in any look presents that might be around the internet that i could dial into my red and experiment with? Do these exist?

Good question.

I still haven't figured out how to make custom curve presets in RCX...

I've tried digging around in the install path for any editable files,
perhaps a user has to create a custom preset file in XML or something?

RCX has always felt more like a demo then a full fledge app.
I would absolutely love if it was more fleshed out feature wise.

(or am I missing some documentation or understanding?)

bump. anyone with any redcinepro settings they can share for the R1? I see people with lower end cameras share this info all the time, i can't for the life of me believe nobody has any settings they swear by in different lighting conditions.

I have a whole bunch of Looks I've made in REDCINE-PRO for many jobs. Though I think what stands for many professionals is that this is part of how we make a living, which is likely the reason many won't share some presets online. I know that's how it is for me with RED Looks and also 3D LUTs for that matter. So there's many I'd swear by, but not too many I'd give away. Most of the presets and LUTs I've made serve as "starters" as there are many variables that can influence your footage, but there's certainly situations where it's a sort of "push to export" sort of thing. A good example was my last job where we had a quick first light for all interiors and a custom Look Preset was applied to all footage for dailies for review purposes.

Anyways.

To create preset with Custom Curves all you need to do is make your adjustments then under "Look Presets" hit that little "+" symbol. That will create a new preset that you can name whatever you want. If you right click your new preset you can use the check marks to "leave on" everything you want that preset to effect. In this case you want just the Curve:Luma, Curve:Red, Curve:Green, and Curve:Blue checked.

An additional tip as curves are a common part of "first lights" done in RCX is if you look next to the Curves Palette in RCX there are buttons with P1 through P7. If you have a curve you like press and hold any of those buttons for about 2 seconds and that will be available to load anytime.

So awesome!
I've been trying to figure out how to do that for a while. I owe you a round!

Thanks for the info and sorry it took so long for me to respond, i guess given back in the mid 00s when i was using cameras like the HVX200 and Canon XL2, it was normal of filmmakers to share custom presets or look settings but i guess its a different ball game with RED, i guess i still just find it hard that even in the early days on RED ONE that nobody shared any test looks or things for people new to the red could use to experiment with. I remember the XL2 had a TON of look presets, even one named after the film Amelie lol

Be the change you want to see in the world. Create a preset or look that you are proud enough to share, share it, and see if it inspires others to do likewise. You might even become famous for having started such a great resource. Just make it easy for people to find, share, and contribute to what you have done. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons
