I also agree with Director and Audio forums.

I second that. A Red/ Real world production site for the free flow of ideas on cinematography, lighting, and audio would be great. There is a lot of experience with you guy's on this site just waiting to be tapped. There's strangely a sense of family on here, and I would rather ask questions around here than elsewhere.

There is always a budget to consider, and there's always more than one way to skin a cat.:gun:

I don't like too many subcategories generally, but it seems that besides a PRODUCTION category, you'd probably want to change 4K WORKFLOW to just WORKFLOW (for 4K, 2K, HD). I'd assume that the category covers editing and color-correction issues, perhaps even film-outs, basically a post-production category, except that workflow also covers on-set recording, etc.

You may also want a category for news and announcements, perhaps a one-time only, non-reply set-up.

Maybe my internal definition of cinematography is out of alignment but when I think cinematography I think: Composition, Lights, Lenses, Grip, Gaffing and Art Direction. None of which in any way relate to any specific camera. Having a RED specific cinematography forum would be pointless.

Lights are Lights. Lenses are Lenses. Good composition is good composition. What does RED have to do with any of it beyond finding the quirks that you need to look out for and knowing what to meter at?

I'm not against a cinematography topic I'm just curious what the people who thought it would be a RED specific cinematography thought would be discussed.

Good idea. And maybe add "Accessories" when the camera launches. Or "Gear" to discuss everything from tripods to matte boxes.

Cannot agree more.

I don't think people are suggesting that it's specific to RED, just that they'd rather talk about it here than elsewhere.

dont worry guys.. as soon as cameras are all in your hands Reduser will actually become more focused on actual Redusers heh heh heh.. cause there arn't that many actual Redusers out there right now.

Shooting with Red will be a whole new experience and have its own sets of questions, so we will have topic and forums for everything production and post production related.. including cinematography, audio etc.

Just to restate my intention behind the poll......

Well it seems we're talking about two separate forums.. One is RED cinematography (Which I thought the poll was about) and now we've evolved into a "Cinematography in general" forum which happens to live on the REDUser.net site....

Jay

Yup, I was referring to a Cinematography in general forum, not a RED specific Cinematography forum.

When RED is released though, I'd hope that this will be the premiere spot to exchange shooting tips specific to RED, I find that comforting.
