Hi, I have opened a RED video file in Redcine-x (it is about 1 minute in duration), I started color correcting it on my new Macbook Pro Retina 15" with 16GB RAM and 500 GB Free space. Then suddenly all hell woke up. Redcine-x is using 400% of my CPU and the fan noise is almost eating the computer alive from overheating, why is this???? Does anyone have an answer?

I have a 12 core MacPro w/ SSD and cannot play back at half quality without the video eventually stuttering. Stick with 1/4 to 1/8th quality and realize that if you use alchemy, sharpening, film grain, or saturation sliders you are taking a huge render hit.

If you want to have smooth playback, you'll need a Red Rocket.

Im using 1/8th , and every single step I make is rendering the s*it out of my computer. Like 500% CPU usage. Why does it have to render every small step I make? Can't I just try to apply a look and then render it with all the setting when I'm done?
