Testing some soon to be released firmware for the Teradek Cube - very cool stuff. Automated wireless recording to H264.

Serve it up over AirVideo to iPads and iPhones on set.

Check it out -

More details soon - huge thanks to Deanan @ RED and the Teradek gang for making this happen!!

another cool trick is to feed two cameras on a 3D rig into the new, forthcoming AJA HI5 3D - then stream a muxed 3D image wireless to a (soon to be released) Cube HDMI decoder - plugged into a 3D panel. Two tiny boxes on the 3D rig, one on the panel = wireless 3D.

This is soooo awesome Mark!!!

Thank you for sharing this and thank you to Deanan and Teradek for making this possible.

Cannot overstate how useful this is going to be... Frickin awesome

All the best,

Mark,

What about saving the files to a "server" that could then allow an Ipad to access the files later on.. I know LightIron has an amazing piece of software to do this, but I'm not sure it's going to be for public consumption.

Is there an alternative (Although I'd like LightIron's!)?

When you record - you are in fact recording the files to a server - you choose any destination over your network - or internet.

This server can be your laptop for example. In the video - I was testing using TWO cameras recording to my 17" laptop - and serving those files out from my laptop using AirVideo (which is FREE FYI - Mac, PC and Linux)

With AirVideo - you are serving those recorded files out to iPads and iPhones (if you want) - you can always transfer the files (I use DROPBOX) to the iPad locally if you want to be watch the clips later - when you are away from any network.

Well, ignore me. I'm in a bad mood :)

It's a valid point Wolfgang. But you can, and should protect dailies - and IMO there's a lot of control and options with a system like this.

Sorry about your bad mood. Tomorrow is another day ...

I've been using the Cube for a few months. I use a Airport Extreme which is dual band, one band to the Cube, the other for the computers to log in. I've had 3 laptops log in.
If you set a small caching value in VLC you get a delay of 4 or 5 frames.
Putting the Airport on a C-stand helps to extend reception.
Macs with 10.6 seem to work better than 10.5.

Mark, is it able to stream live or does it have to finalise the recording before playing? In other words, is the producer able to 'monitor' the camera on his/her iPad?

Wolfgang, a lot of people do bloody stupid things with their precious valuables and then whinge when they lose them. That's why God invented the phrase, "I told you so". So long as it can be secured, then nobody can complain if they don't bother. On your bad day, I recommend you drink heavily today. That way you know today will get better and tomorrow will be even worse :wink5:

producer can watch live recording on laptop - iPad uses HTTP protocol - so - delay to iPad live is really bad - that's a protocol issue. Best to use laptop for live monitor and iPad for playback - IMO.

This looks easy and powerful. Really cool.

Congrats Mark, you've just made the Cubes essential on every Red rental kit out there IMHO.
