  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED camera controlled wireless recording w/Teradek

This seems like a fantastic offering for monitoring and playback on set + takeaway dailies for Director, producer etc.
I still get occasional requests (some just can't be dissuaded by explaining how silly it is) for SD DVD dailies. This is a 2 stage process in RCX since there is no SD grantors option from Rocket. Pain in the A. Teradek also mention an MPG-TS module, and they have hardware scaling to 480P is there any talk of this extending to scaling for PAL or NTSC standard def in a directly burnable to DVD format that will playback in standard domestic DVD players? I guess the current best option is to give them the 720P H264's burnt to a data disk for playback on computer? What about set-top blurry players, can we burn to Bluray directly to play in them?

I also wonder if this will head off RED from bothering to peruse their own h264 module - unless they simply license it or help them build a version that stacks online on the Epic with the internal connectors. As Epic has wifi (or did last time I saw any plans) you may not need the wifi model in that unit either.

With the Cube out there doing this I think RED would do well to focus on a ProRes/ DNXHD proxy module for straight to edit offline. The Atomos Ninja may well end up being the bargain ticket here though, especially if they can also nail the filename matching and record flag reading from the SDI out on the RED One.

With Apple dicking around with app stores for desktop OSX as a major new feature announcement and FCP's future uncertain it's difficult to know whether ProRes is a worthwhile tech to invest in for the future for hardware manufacturers. But let's not let this get too far off topic.

Teradek cube 120 is arrived in Paris today (3 days after buying on the website) if needed for rent or for test.

I have clients that ask for same day SD dvd dailies on some commercials.

It's easy:

use either clipfinder or simply apple finder to find all your smallest QT proxies (P).

Drag those into DVD studio Pro, throw them on the timeline, create a single push button to play the "track" with the mag name, and date. Burn. And boom goes the dynamite.
