  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Batteries.... Power the Scarlet and Epic

Good read! Thanks James. I think a mix of redvolts and bricks will be the best option for power

Great read, James. Thanks for securing my decision to go with both vmounts and redvolts. That write up made a lot of sense.

I'd be curious to know how many vmount plate options are out there for Epic/Scarlet (that do not require an adapter cable, like the RED belt clip).
I'm aware of Viewfactor's plate, and the innocinema system - but I haven't seen much else out there.

Could anyone point me in the direction of some other epic/scarlet vmount options?

Nice article. To be honest I really want to avoid any brick-type batteries and build my workflow around Redvolts, so I'm pretty eager to order these battery modules when they finally come out

Good read. Red Brick/V Mount solutions are indeed a production standard and great for their power duration.

I'm putting a lot of energy into a RedVolt concept.
I like the idea of having a super portable unit with just the DSMC Side Handle powering the camera for short bursts.

Once the QuadVolt module and DualVolt modules are released you'll be able to have a hot swap solution attached to your rig and you'll have the ability to "run forever" with enough batteries and charging rotation. It will add to the general size of the rig, but honestly, I think the DualVolt module will be pretty darn compact and the QuadVolt module has already shown to be useful.

I'm currently aiming at 12-16 RedVolts down the line. Sounds crazy, but that should cover a health day (or two even) of shooting without hitting the chargers until wrap.

Luis,

Viewfactor makes a perfect one. It saves you $1200 bucks on having to buy an Epic Backpack and plate.

Hey Jeffrey - like I said, I'm aware of Viewfactors and Innocinema's options... (thanks to you from another thread, actually).

Viewfactor is currently at the top of my list, and will probably be the one I'll purchase once I get confirmation of my Scarlet shipping - just wondering if there were other vmount options out there I hadn't seen.

I'm going with the VF APU, seems like a great execution. Also using the swit 80+80 v-mounts in order to avoid travel complications with larger lithiums.

Nice article!
You mentioned that each Epic ships with 4 x RedVolts.....maybe the Epic-Ms did...but my Epic-X shipped with only 2 x RedVolt batteries (plus a Travel Charger).

Interesting to hear that from you
I guess Red has underpromised and overdelivered on more then one occasion.Firmware tweaks with better power management is a possibility down the line. But batteries do age...

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but did i hear that they're releasing Redvolt XL of the same physical size in near future, or was i dreaming?
Just really not looking to <30min of run time, and the weight and bulk is almost the same with a V-mount as with a DualDock with two Redvolts.
VF Apu plate looks like a work of heart to me

Yes, Red is going to release an XL version of Redvolt although it won't be the same size as a regular Redvolt, it will be bigger

Here's a nice clarification from Haakon on the subject of battery modules and Redvolts

We have the viewfactor battery plate. Works as advertised. As previously mentioned, saves you $1200 over the backpack/plate combo. Other options are coming, but this plate fills the red brick need for us perfectly. I'd also recommend the stealth plate and the shuttle (also brook Willard inventions) to keep your redmote on hand

What batteries are you using with the VF APU?
