  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED and Arri...

Regarding the OVF.

I was all for it until a friend actually had a good point. The EVF is truer to the image. It's closer to WSIWYG so why go OVF? I think it's a fair point and is therefor in a camp in between right now. One side wants old school and the other realises that times are changing.

If the boot up time on the EPIC is literally 2 sec and it runs longer on a battery then EVF might not be the bad option anymore. Especially not if it's truer to the image and less "annoying" to the eye. I find the recent one to "flicker", at least with my eyes.

Jim,

if you make it and show it at NAB 2010 I'm sure that the most famous Austrian rentals like FGV Stöger in Vienna and Otto Nemenz in USA will show you the money for the Epic OVF model.

Big camera equipment rentals worldwide would be potential customers for Epic OVP.

I just have my two Austrian schillings left.

Dalsa?

Jim

The makers of the Origin? I don't know where they fall on the list of popularity in the Digital Cinema world, but hey- just throwing names out. The more the merrier, I should think.

P+S Technik made 4K OVF for Dalsa Origin I and II.

CML has done a lot of these comparison test in the last 10 years or so.....

Perhaps as we have absolutely no vested interest we could organise it?

We would love to have you involved! Just make sure all companies are completely involved for the most fair tests.

Tests should include:

1. Resolution
2. Color
3. Dynamic Range
4. Sensitivity
5. Feel

We would certainly expect the tests to include the Arri dynamic range test, over/under, a zone plate, green screen and tests at high ISO. I would expect the results should be shown at 4k and 1080P. Am I forgetting anything?

I don't think so... in any event, Arri's best program is the Alexa.

Jim

So the sale didn't go through...and they just out of this business, right? Intersting, never heard any update on what happened.

The good news about a test like this is that it will also show a comparison of Arri-RAW vs. REDCODE.

Everybody's waiting for that comparison.

Also RED should finally build OVF (Optical View Finder) even if Jim didn't get any order call for it till today.

It's just because the professionals want to see it first and then if like it they will place their orders (for sure mostly rentals,...).

See my signature:ihih:

OVF @4000ISO, with NDs, shooting IR. Forget it. It's yesterday.:beatdeadhorse5:

I think it will speak volumes about the near future of digital cinema. Both companies have invested a lot in a "film alternative". It will be important for cinematographers to know they have good choices going forward.
