  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is this monochrome snapshot or what?
I don’t see any CA even at 400% magnification and all the way in the corner?!

Not monochrome.. CA on this lens is pretty non-existent. Remember, fresh sheet of paper, matched to our sensor.

Could you shoot one with the cooke lens for a comparison?

But I don't see even 1/2 pixel, nothing at all!! nothing.
Not even one pixel misplaced!

What aperture did you use when you took this shot?
Did you shot few seconds or just single frame?
What shutter speed?

They were both shot at T5.6., 24fps, 4k 2:1, 1/48th shutter. Rolling footage.

We were as pleasantly impressed as you were.

That is quite an impressive image. Apart from the quality of the lens, I notice a satisfyingly small amount of color moire (any less and I'd think it was monochrome). Was any special processing necessary to achieve this?

(edit) I'm looking at this picture at 1200% and it is clean. Quite remarkably so. Are you sure this isn't downsampled from an 8k sensor? :-) There is a very slight grey-blue pattern in place of the typical cyan-magenta color moire that I would expect to see, and have seen on various digital cameras. Is this some build 16 magic that we are seeing here?

If you apply ridiculous levels of sharpening in PS, you can bring out a periodic, egg-crate texture in the flat greys (see crop below), but there seems to be no random noise at all, none. Apart from that slight texture, it seems to be a theoretically perfect image. In fact if you put a perfect synthesized image through Redcode, would it look any different? Hard to see how (except that the posted image is very slightly tilted from exactly level).

As everyone noted in earlier comments:
The right side of frame looks softer and a bit darker.
The chart also looks skewed.
But it's great to see how good these lenses are performing.
Nice job.

that texture is actually on the crooked chart :)

Very nice. Thanks Jarred for posting.
