  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED #8 testing team & some details

So like Sept?

Immediately after RED 1-50 ship. The currently scheduled date that RED has quoted for those camera numbers is August 30.

I am very excited and honored to hear this news! I would like to extend my services as a script supervisor to take notes on length, focal lenses, and spec. fx notes! I graduated from cinema arts tech which is the top scripty school in the country, I also go to film school so I have access to light/sound/editing equipment anything to help this project # 8! EITHER WAY GOD BLESS AND GOOD LUCK! - JASON AVALOS ( NOMAD PICTURES)

Summary
After deciding on a team testing of the camera system, the next logical thought that came to my mind, was this: Rather than horde the results and knowledge gained from the testing among the team alone, why not post it so that the rest of you who are hungry for real-world, hands-on feedback on RED One can share in the results. That was an easy decision for me. Anyone who has followed the development of RED One since it was first announced, should also know that I have continually stepped up to mentor, advise, and inform this board and others about the tech and business principles of the motion media industry, and specifically share what knowledge and insight I may have about RED and RED One. It’s been fun for me doing that and I’ve learned immensely from many of the rest of you. This testing is an extension of that symbiosis: I’m sharing this testing with you – and I’m sure you’ll be sharing your ideas and results over the coming months and years ahead with me. I’ve been very fortunate to get an early reservation number so I’m spreading the benefits around this board to all of you. If many of you were in my position, I seriously think you would do the same thing.

All I can say is that Gibby is a class act in an otherwise transparent industry of me first.

LART will be a first-look, hands-on testing/shooting of the cameras with various lens and accessory combinations. I would guess that in the months after the first cameras ship, many entities will dive into the nuances of post workflows.

Gibby,

Since that footage will "exist" wouldn't it be interesting to see how it will integrate in a post workflow as soon as possible.

Much of the discussion in the past few days has been around render times of RED cine, how scaled images will work, etc.

We do not have a clear indication of whether the FCP release supporting REDCODE will coincide with the August 30th release.

Obviously, It might be best if we get a workflow out of the footage shot in spain, but that will only cover a feature film workflow.

I'd be willing to run some tests on footage if it was supplied, so we can start to carve out some numbers and DP's that do not have a "video village" around the corner can start to plan how to get RED into their client workflows.

Just a thought.

I hope that this is an appropriat question for this forum. I found a PQI 16 gig 300x compact flash card. I wanted to know if this has been tested and if it would work. It seems that the transfere speeds would be just fine. I believe they are 34 mbs write and 45 read wich should be fine for red code raw.

yaque -- that is definitely noteworthy. I'm sure we'll see a lot more CF cards like that in the coming months. I'm expecting RED to offer CF cards as well. The 16GB PQI one looks like it should work with RED -- we don't know which ones RED has tested or will be testing though, or at least not yet.

This has perhaps been mentioned before, but a search didn't reveal much: is it possible to test how the Red One handles strobe lights? And I do mean the biggest of the bunch that exist. The one you would use for stadium rock concerts, or for lightning effects.

The question pops in my head because I'm editing a music feature (shot on fx1 hdv camera) where it's a major problem. Artefacts up until a quarter of the frame.

Thanks, Kurt

I'd like to know what the plan is for LART now...

Personally, I think LART should be held off a bit until the majority of the camera's features are enabled. But who am I to dictate, it's not my production. ...Although, my opinion may be a little biased. October is not shaping up to be a good travel month for me and I would be terribly upset if I couldn't make it.

Jeff I actually second your thought on that. Fully functional cameras for testing will give a lot more testing options and I for one would like to be quite thorough with our testing.

Strobes are how we test camera synch for multiple cameras. Although not the "biggest of the bunch" we will be able to share the strobe results post LART.

when you look into the datasheet, you will see a writing speed of 22,5 Mbytes/s. thats not enough...
