Any information on the RED 50-150mm?

Thanks.

It is sloooooowly shipping, according to posts around here...

My guess is that they're not really too keen on shipping it after changing their lens program profile (from the 18-50 type lenses towards the the 18-85 type lenses...)

If that's the case, I might just cancel and hold to see if these are actually on the priority list or what. But then again, there is no modification to the 50-150.

I haven't seen anyone get one since the first couple batches and that was a while ago. I would like to see some information from Red of anykind, even that they're discontinued. But nothing at all and emailing Red a while ago produced nothing but silence.

I don't want my money back, but just some information on what the deal is.

They must be thinking about adding a lens in the 25-250 range - that would be the next logical step after the 18-85.... Unless it's a 14-50...

This is of course total speculation, but if they want to play in the cinema lens world ( and I hope Jim does ) that is what must be done.

I was told in the last couple of weeks from RED that it's still coming and not that long away to my number. Read into that what you will but sounds to me that their still churning them out.

But it also sounds feasible that they may not be keen on them if they have vastly improved on lens design for future models basing off the 18-85mm. If you have a 50-150mm on reserve i would make the decision shortly. I'm still going the 50-150mm as it'll be a nice little 'package' of lenses outside of hiring a full set of primes...or waiting for RED's primes.

"I was told in the last couple of weeks from RED that it's still coming and not that long away to my number"

Red 103 has not received any notice on the 50-150 ... so depending on what they define in time as "not that long away " to ship 903 ?

I look forward to the 18-85; I reserved it when it was announced and still held out hope even when it's appearance was in doubt last year. I see the 18-50 and the 50-150 as serving a difference purpose than the 18-85 - I have been really happy with the 18-50 as an inexpensive, compact and lightweight short zoom - the images I have been getting have been very good. So I'm jonesing bad for the 50-150 as being like the 18-50 but with more reach - I don't see using the 18-85, or something in its style (massive) for my run and gun work. Can't wait for the 50-150. Please don't make us wait much longer . . . . . the 18-85 is awesome and all, but I also need a lens that is less "awesome" (in size and weight) as well . . . . . .

...

I ordered and paid for mine as part of my original Red package. I've not heard a peep since about any availability.

My Bomb Squad rep told me that it was delayed, and I asked him "six days? six weeks, six months?" and he told me more like six weeks but that he didn't know for sure...

But if 103 hasn't been served yet, it's a little tough to imagine that 1248 will be here in anywhere near six weeks...

Would be nice to get some sort of feedback from RED on this one....

How many RED lenses (50-150mm) have shipped already? Who's received their's in the last month (July 2008)?

Hi,

I mailed Jim after seeing one, I think he might have taken what I said seriously.

Hi all,
Got a shiny new 50-150 here and it is a nice piece of work. Feels a bit more solid than the 18-50. It was definitely worth the wait. Has a very nice focus ring/grip that makes it operator friendly. Seems to match the 18-50 pretty well but we haven't put it on the charts yet. No screw on filter is the only bummer. Weighs about the same and is maybe 3/4 longer. I hope they start to crank 'em out soon because you're going to love it!

Thaks for the info Paule!

If only your RED's serials had one more digit at the end... :-)
