  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recap January 22, 2011...

Innovations start in the trenches away from Hollywood. Don't look to Hollywood for the birth of new ideas or for a rubber stamp of approval, ask what you can do with Epic rather than if Epic has been accepted by others.

its sad,its finally confirmed The avengers are shooting on Arri Alexa raw to codex,i would have loved to see it being shot on red epic in 3d, jim we really need to hear some new announcements of big budgetted studio movies being shot on red epic, Jack the giant killer was the last announcement ,dying to know about those three unnamed biggies you mention in your first post of this thread............

I don't think Jim is interested in killing off all digital cinema companies but his own. So his competitors can survive, they have to get the occasional contract :). I have it on good authority - namely, his posts - that he likes and respects Arri, and pretty much by definition doesn't want them to stop making cameras.

After all, his legendary camera collection always needs new toys ...

Don't ask what Epic can do for you! But what you can do with Epic!

I don´t understand, does it mean that the Avengers is not in 3d?

It is going to be shot and released in 3D. Alexa cameras have been used to capture some 2D aerial footage but that's the only known use of them by the production and it was made public some time ago that they were testing various 3D rigs including EPIC setups. That's all there is to it for now.

yeah i know guys i agree with you,its that i love epic too much and the company red,i have been really moved and deeply touched by what they have been doing for improving digital cinema and making it superior than film. I am a devotee of "Red digital cinema camera company" and i truly believe in them and the goal they are trying to achieve, till 2008 red just defined a favorite color for me,but now it defines a lot more in my life. So,basically whenever a digital movie is announced and its not shooting on red cameras i get a bit sad. I am a great fan of the avengers comic books and knew that it will be shot in 3d and hoped that that they will use red epic, when thay announced that they tested Epic i almost thought my dream came true, but then it was announced that they will be shooting on alexa's, so i am a bit sad,it may not be a sad moment for u guys but for me its sad i can;t help it as i was really looking forward to this movie especially after hearing that maybe it will be shot on epics i was twice looking forward to it.

Anyways whatever,i am sure The Avengers will look great when its done, but i can also tell for sure that it would have looked much much more better if it would have been shot on RED EPICS, anyone who knows and believes in red and what red epic cameras can do and understands it's power will have to agree with me on this point........

LONG LIVE RED and best of luck to ARRI ALEXA"S after the productions Epix-x's hit the market.........

pls forgive me if i am being a bit crazy about the red epic, but thats just the way i am.................

Hey guys NAB is over and still no news on three unnamed biggies shot on red epic in 3d,2 big budgeted and one huge budgeted, it was said that they will be announced before Nab but still no news on them,i am dying to know about those unnamed biggies, especially the huge budgeted one, could it be Superman the man of steel or star trek 2.........

IMDB is back to reporting red epic as the camera being used to Shoot the Avengers on the movie's technical specifications page. Here's the link...

A while back it was reporting Arri Alexa, i still think it will be shot on epic. It doesn't just makes sense for them to be choosing alexa over Red epic for a movie like the Avengers......

Just the fact that it's listing "REDraw" as a format should make you doubt about IMDB's accuracy when it comes to these things. They start shooting in 4 months, no hurry....

Thanks for the wonderful and kind tone of your reply, Rohan. It makes it so much worthy to hang around these boards.
I'm happy for you, it means you only have to wait 4 more days to get your answer.

Avengers is shooting 2D to Alexa ArriRaw with Codex, starts this week, they've been doing camera prep at Panavision for weeks...

Capt America wrapped a few weeks ago except for some 2nd unit stuff I worked on, Panavision Genesis, also shot 2D

They said shooting 3D on Thor slowed production down too much, they're over it

Just not enough Epics out there I guess haha

I'd hardly say the time was due to any specific camera they used. I'd think if it was a time issue, they were still not pleased with the current state of 3D setup times? (In no way am I speaking from an official standpoint)

he he,anyway still its strange felling that suddenly all the big movies are being shot digitally either red epic or alexa and with sony f65 soon to enter the game, well, motion picture film can rest in peace sooner than we thought.....
