  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recap January 22, 2011...

Funny you should mention Apple. My guess was that the surprise had something to do with iPad 2 (due in early April) integration or that Red was buying Final Cut Studio and finally doing it right.

I thought that as well and it would be good, but ill go with my money on either 4K monitor or projector!

:)

Recap.
EPIC-Xs ship in reasonable quantities before NAB 2011.
Scarlet 8X and interchangeable soon after.

Any chance you can open up pre-orders of Scarlet 8x and 2/3rds soon. I would hate for you to under estimate the demand! It could also allow anyone who had put in an order to start getting all the components we need, and have a rough forecast of how long we have to wait. I suspect nearly every red one owner will pick up a fixed or 2/3.

I suspect current red customers get first crack at scarlet?

Me too. Hoping it is a monitor instead of projector. Between 42" and 55" would be perfect!

I would go opposite and go for a projector! Every home should have a 4K projector connected to a REDRay Pro! :-)

Wouldn't say no to a large monitor / screen

42" would be ideal - take the market out of the Panasonic! But I would prefer a projector that could then be projected - that connected to a MacPro for editing, color correction for editing facilities, small production houses, independent filmmakers etc and for serious home uses that could be scLed for use in theaters would be a winner. If REDRay Pro is suitable for R3D playback, then why not a projector to display that content using the right LUTs etc.

Might save having to do a DPX files! :-)

Hooray! Even way back when it was first announced, Scarlet seemed like my dream camera. The Scarlet Fixed has become so much more than I ever imagined. I wish I could attend NAB and see one in person. Instead I'll just put that money towards a Bomb EVF. Very exited about the prospect of shooting with one by the end of the year. Please be sure to let all of us know when you start taking deposits.

I really can't decide between Scarlet Interchangeable, and Fixed.
- If we can pre-order will I be able to order both?
- Can I use all the accessories in the Fixed pack with the Interchangeable?

thanks!

i'm guessing that none of the package deals (yet to be announced) will include ssd's. Am i correct? i figured that wouldnt make much sense but i just wanted asked before i buy my ssd's ahead of time

I think this is a pretty reasonable assumption. (Of course, you never know until it is announced.) I believe it's been mentioned that the EPic-M's are to include some SSDs but I don't believe that is a pattern. At the low end, $950 for a 64G unit, that would add to the price of a Scarlet pretty quickly. And, since it has been discussed that CF cards will still be a viable option for Scarlet, I suspect RED will leave it up to you to decide what you want to record on.

Don't forget to add the price of the SSD module. 1 500 $ - 500 $ CF unit = at least 1 000 $ to get SSD module + 950 $ for 64G mag = 2 000 $ to start with a SSD cam. Not sure everyone can afford it but I can't see how Scarlet could be used without a SSD: at 3K, you can only record few minutes on a CF.
