  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recap January 22, 2011...

Both can shoot major motion pictures. What more comparison do you need?

Jim

Knowing that I'll be cutting MX and Epic together in the future, I'm curious how they will coexist, cut up against each other.

Also great to see that redray gets out next quarter. Am very curious to see its effect on distribution. My hope is that it'll revolutionize documentary and independent film production.

And good to see that you are taking a break. I can't imagine what new ideas you'll come up with when you're not busy with day-to-day operations.

Let us know if your trip should bring you to Scandinavia, the community here would show you some places very worth 5k (or 28k) of resolution.

One egoistic question at the end, when will we get to know our serial # for The EPIC-X so we can approximate a shipping date?

thanks for all the great news and updates Jim.

Amazing how many big budget films will be shot on RED MX and EPIC in 2011/12, but, IMAGINE how many small budget ones will be shot......I figure hundreds all over the world...in America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia....RED has spread all over the planet and enabled so many of us to shoot on great cameras and make very beautiful pictures.

THANKS

Jim

O.K. with all this great news I have to start fork in money for my new camera! Time is near! For Scarlet Fixed lens it would be probably June 2011. Just for my birthday!

"EPIC-S ships as soon as we take care of EPIC-M and EPIC-X customers."

Does that mean you cleared the whole backlog of EPIC-M and EPIC-X? :O that took you almost two years with RED One :( No really really rough timeframe?!?! (before July/October/January2012?)

EPIC-Xs ship in reasonable quantities before NAB 2011.
Scarlet 8X and interchangeable soon after.

What ? Wait ? You said recently that the Scarlet won't ship until the end of summer and now it could be soon after NAB 2011 (april) ? :scared:

simply happy:) Can't wait for more news on the fixed scarlet and the Epic-S!!:) Still deciding which one will be my first RED camera purchase!! Thank you all at RED!! -Paul

first of all, the recap great idea, along with the "red team" buttons. This forum is so much better because of these "little" touches. Thanks!

Jim's vacation after NAB 2011.

well deserved!

New REDcolorEPIC due February 1st.

This, to me, is probably the most interesting thing of all, though I'll have to wait for Epic to reach rental houses to see what it's about...but patience is a virtue, or so they say :-)

REDray Pro ships April 2011.

Very interesting!

The Hobbit- 3D EPIC
Spiderman- 3D EPIC
Contagion- RED ONE MX & EPIC
Girl With the Dragon Tattoo- RED ONE MX & EPIC
Clash of the Titans 2- 3D EPIC
Underworld 4- 3D EPIC
Ridley Scott Un-named- 3D EPIC
Jack the Giant Killer- 3D EPIC

While I can totally understand the excitement over these news and I honestly think Red has every right to be extremely proud of where they are now (and where they're heading), I cannot help but notice 2 things in the list: first of all, these are almost all 3D (not being a fan of the format, it doesn't really matter to me), so while it clearly shows that Epic is becoming the de facto choice for that kind of production, and given its size it makes perfect sense, i'll be more interested in seeing the camera used in a more "traditional" way, because realistically that's what's going to happen on this side of the world for most things (and I guess Soderbergh and Fincher movies in the list will answer that question, though they were shot on MX as well).

Secondly, am I the only one in noticing that, aside from the Ridley Scott movie and Contagion, out of 8 movies (so far) 3 are sequels/prequels, 2 are remakes, 1 is a reboot? If this is a trend for the future, I don't like it...at all...

(doesn't have ANYTHING to do with Red or any other camera or format, so I apologize if I put my little rant here).

What ? Wait ? You said recently that the Scarlet won't ship until the end of summer and now it could be soon after NAB 2011 (april) ? :scared:

No it was his estimate of when the last person in line (properbly ordering right away) would get it at latest.

It would be really swell, if Scarlets were shipped to Europe right away without going to the US first, so customs and taxed could be saved.- if that's how it works.

What is EPICs ? and there is no word on when EPIC light shipps?

thanks

Recap.
