thanks for all the excitement lately.
been shooting with my red one since june and im trapped in tucson az shooting a feature

When I read your heads up before the 3rd, I was expecting a price increase to go along with faster frame rates. The price seemed to come down with the frame rates you announced on the 3rd. It leads me to think that there will be a pricier option in the future. I'm sure many will be delighted to take advantage of that, and If I'm in the position to, I shall as well:)

I barely understand the frame rate gripes... I know that sometimes a slow motion shot is useful and dramatic, but as an editor who has worked on dozens of MOWs and short films, I have only been handed a few slomo shots over the years -- and even in those cases they were never faster than 60 fps. Is 100+ fps (something that almost no camera can do, let alone at 3, 4, 5, or 6k) such a dealbreaker that people aren't willing to buy a FF35 camera for 10 grand if it doesn't have it? Seriously, I'm cracking up. It's like with each announcement the response is "that's great, but why can't you give me a camera that's TWICE AS GOOD for the same amazing price??" High frame rates are pure luxury, not the heart and soul of filmmaking. Ok, unless you're Zack Snyder. I'd love to watch and yawn at everybody's 120 fps movies where someone crosses the street and takes half an hour to get to the other side.

What do you expect from a forum full of DP's? It's like cinematographic masterbation

The action sequence in 300 was shot in 120fps - that's nothing boring about it. And so is a lot (I mean a lot) sports event film are shot on high frame rate. Hell one of my shorts - shoot a fishing sequence with 1000 fps.

May be watch a few (or cut a few / or shoot) more films, then you will start to realize how useful that is. Also one of the advantage of film is variable film rate (and of course high speed) now RED come really really close to what film can do.

But then again, we are here because we embrace a whole new world a head of us.

watch a few more films? thanks for the condescension. i think you're missing my point.

Beautiful pictures, Paint. Magic hour?

Jim and Co., what you've presented us with is beyond expectations and far greater than anything the market has to offer right now. You have no need to explain or defend yourself. For those who continue to question, they may still not fully see the picture:

Genesis
D-20, D-21
Phantom
F-23, HDW-F900 CineAlta, XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX
P2 Varicam, HPX3000, HPX2000, HPX500

All fantastic cameras, but Red has an answer for each one. They now pale in comparison not only in regards to the unheardof specs and jaw-dropping prices but to the well-thoughtout concept of agelessness that's been delivered.

Lots of tv commercials use higher frame rates, think of food, shampoo, cars. The reason it is such a big deal is that until now you would have to rent a very expensive camera to do those shots.

here jim heres some more
did you see the others?

really thankful, and sad to see you fighting the few nay sayers but i guess its part
of your job when the people that respect you are so many yet your never satisfied in making sure people understand red fully and yours and the companies hard work.
cant please em all, but you never give up trying
i know what thats like
but i really dont get that you just dropped futuristic cameras at futuristic prices
and not only is there no other camera company that has done this
but they wont and they cant match the modularity/interchangeable
and they cant even come close to the beauty
not even close.
and the new ones are a masterpiece.

p.s. ive never posted any images these are just for you : )
please ignore all the bull shit going around

I think 120fps at 2K is amazing and I can't wait to shoot 5K and 6K at 100fps. If people need super high frame rates rent or buy that specialty camera. I mean what's wrong with 350fps at 2K. I love blowing shit up at 120fps...350fps will be fun to play with.
