re: Looking for simple "One light/best light" processing of raw R3D files
We have a job coming up next week where the deadline is extraordinarily tight -- shoot on one day and editing on the next, presentation on the third day. We will have 60 to 90 minutes of footage shot on RED (likely to be 4K, 16:9) and we are trying to find out a few things:
1. The producer believes there is a way to use either RedAlert or RedCine to do a simple "one-light" or "best-light" processing of the footage without messing with in-depth colour correction, a preset of some kind that would preserve the settings chosen during the shoot. Is this true? If so, how do we access it? I looked through the RedCine interface but couldn't find such a preset that would allow this kind of automatic processing.
2. Using an Octocore MacPro (unsure of amount of RAM), how long would it take to transcode the raw R3D files to ProRes HQ, 720p24? We can't use FCP Log and Transfer or edit the R3D natively because the primary editing station is still on FCP6, PowerPC G5.
3. The final deliverable is not HD; it is SD 720x486, DigiBeta. We are currently thinking about whether we need to go from R3D to HD to begin, whether we should simply go directly to Uncompressed 10-bit SD. Is there any downside to this, other than the inability to shift the frame around using the leeway offered by going to 720p or 1080i? Would going to SD at this early stage save on processing time?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
