I'm new to RED I've spent years window shopping on the store and now I'm about top pay my deposit on the Raven I've never been this excited about a camera before!!!!

The only thing that I'm thinking about is my PC and whether it will be able to work with the footage I have a GH4 and it can't play 4K in real time this is my current setup:

intel core i5 4670, 16gb ram, 120gb Ssd, 2Tb data drive, asus b85m-g USB 3.0 intel b86 sata3 7.1 HD audio socket1150 DDR3 micro atx motherboard with hdmi, dvi and d-sub, GeForce 2gb GDDr5 gtx 660 DVI, HDMI

What else should I get?
any help would greatly appreciated

I was looking into the same thing. I read about this card:

AMD Radeon R9 390 8GB
http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Dissipati...n_feature_keywords_five_browse-bin:8259091011

There is a review in there from "Glen" that talks about how he uses it for video editing as well.

Maybe your next step is to upgrade to a beefier i7 (4 ghz??), motherboard to accompany DDR4 RAM, and pump that up to 32GB DDR4.

Hope this helps.

Oh and when you do get super rich, get this:

Samsung 16TB SSD

Keep in mind that you can edit the 4K R3D at 1/4 and 1/8 decode quality and throw it on a 2K timeline if you need to, just to get the cuts nailed down.. and then export at the highest decode quality at 4K.

We just purchased Nvidia M4000 , its just fresh new announced in middle august, it have 8GB ram. We maknly will use it to develop Cinec for encode to hevc h265 4k in realtime programming the cudas. Thats the best option you can purchase. They said support red and will allow you to save to purxhase a rocket x card.
As for the rest, core i 5 is fine, ssd is a must and the ram is ok but is cheap tobupgrade ram and reccommended

Thanks guys :)

how would you put it on A 2K timeline?

Thanks guys :)

Depends on your NLE. You just set your project resolution to 2K or 1080p or whatever and your NLE should downscale the 4K to fit.

i'm an AE a lot of the time and figured id chirp in...

with FCPX you can background render, one click relink from red files to proxy files (and more i dont use FCPX enough to give out a more detailed explanation than this)

with avid you can background render, you can ama link, you can set up low res timeline or a 4k one. i just upgraded my avid and haven't use it for much 4k outputting yet but sure eventually will...

with resolve you can set your timeline up to 1080/2k and output full at the end..

you can reduce playback settings in avid and premiere as well (and redcine too)...so there are tricks to get by. that said you can offline/online on anything too if you dont mind extra media... so theres lots of options but for fast turn arounds Rocket X is a life saver and worth every penny... i just wish it had been a better rental item but for actual not pulling my hair out the utility is totally there... and i am glad it will hopefully be relevant with DSMC2 at least for high speed or non prores workflows... but sometimes i wish i built a super computer for more formats... its all got give and take but my rocket x will work well if i do go the super computer route for say arri raw one day in that ill get a good system and a rocket x too for if I'm doing red work but for now the TB2 enclosure is fine..
