  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Raven.... Everything Just Changed.

You're not allowed to voice your opinion anymore? I don't see your point if it's done in a respectful way. Red is not alone in camera world anymore.

Its just that, to me it seems people that voice this over and over and over again are beating a dead horse with requests that have obviously been taken into account and dismissed due to the need for protection of their existing customer base and higher level cameras. PL-Mount, M4/3, Larger sensor, interchangeable OLPF's and on and on. Its been discussed. They are aware of the requests. Lets not just jump into a great new announcement and moan. I applaud RED.

Second, I'll be honest, it seems like only newer members that are here hitting that same nail over and over again. Its not experienced members that understand RED, and the ecosystem, and their operations. Im new myself to the thought of owning a RED, but I only feel appreciation for putting something so powerful in my hands at such a price point. So many bemoan the "Well itll take $15k to be able to REALLY shoot with it". So what? This camera was made for professionals, its a tool, and if you cant see its value as it is, them im sorry but thats a bit disappointing. I could rant on and on but I suppose my point is; Wow. I can now afford to buy into RED. They have a camera for me now. Ive rented and used their cameras before and always had such a splendid time with them and the results I managed. I just cant seem to understand any of the disappointment. Of course it would be cool if RAVEN was 8K and shot 500fps etc etc, but I 100% understand why its not, and for the money, you're getting more than ever before.

Recon thread, more camera for same $$, and here yet again some people are not happy. I frankly just dont understand it. But to each their own I suppose.

thats nice man sweet when can we see them coming in the mail!!!

Red is not alone in camera world anymore.

And they are probably happy with that. As a business owner myself... I don't want to cater to everyone. I only have so many hours to give and I'm not giving them to everyone. I give it to clients that appreciate the time I put in and quality.

For 8K I'm expecting damn near every FF35 lens to cover 8K HD. 8K FF, 2:1, and WS are where things might get interesting, but I think we'll be in a good spot. That's if nothing changes on the sensor size front. Things seem to be going nuts around here :)

I hope Phil is right and the 8k weapon upgrade gets a boost as well.

10k 2.4:1 aspect seems the logical choice.

10368 x 4320, 51.85mm x 21.60mm

Using MF lenses would then be much more practical and it would be almost the size of Alexa65's 54.12 x 25.58 sensor

and of course 10k for $10k has a nice ring to it, at least for those who put our deposits down.

We are updating all the tech specs and copy on RED.com to show the 4.5K ripple effect as we speak....

Least we forget that the reason the Raven can achieve such grand compression/high frame rates....... other then the new boards/internals, is that it's a 10mp sensor. Nearly half the size of the, in my opinion better "true" 19mp dragon sensor. I gotta admit though... this Raven is shaping up to be a pretty dang good camera. not many people can tell the difference between the 2 any way. Hope we Epic/Scarlet Dragon folks get some good updates.... If not us Red oweners still got better cams then mostly everybody else lol

just curious, now tech specs are updated it say 4.6K 120fps at 15:1 (used to be 13:1 at 4K)
is it still 13:1 at 4k?
id love to know all the 4kHD max frame rates with compression.
like at 4khd what compression is 96fps? or 100fps?
thanks!

Jordan, just wrapping up final ID tweaks on the DSMC2 UNIVERSAL HANDLE, the DSMC2 OUTIRGGER HANDLE, and DSMC2 V-LOCK I/O EXPANDER before final product photography and posting on RED.com for ordering...

Looking forward to hearing more about these. Updating and posting about these tonight?
