Has anyone with a new RED DSMC2 Side Handle tried to mount it as-is on a gimbal like a Ronin? Does it fit? Or do you have to remove the side handle every time you want to fly it on the gimbal?

With the ronin M I have to remove it all the time! And the top right screw is always a pain in the *** :)

I'll have time later today to try it. But I believe it would work. You just need the cinemilled dovetail plate to offset the weight of the handle with the little counter weights in the opposite corner. Reason being is that the handle needs to be in front or behind the 2 vertical rails.

I tried for my first shoot with the camera. Didn't fit on the full size ronin. Had to remove it.

Good to know, guys. Thanks for the intel! How do you like the handle in general?

As mentioned above, that top screw is such a pain to tighten.
And without another side handle on the media bay side it's kinda awkward to hold. But I went over to GDU and pick up the cowboy handles. Can't wait for those to arrive!
I am also hoping someone creates an adapter plate so we can relocate the handle, similar to the monitor kit. The handle is awesome and so damn functional! I would love to be able to mount it on the pro-ring for my Ronin for example. Or on a shoulder rig where it can be mounted on a rosette.

That link you posted goes to a different site than you intended. But I did go to the Global Dynamics site to see that cowboy handle. That is slick!

Oops, here is the link https://global-dynamics-united.myshopify.com/

Also had time to play around with my ronin and I got it to balance.
*Disclaimer*
This is only possible with all the adapters and extensions made by cinemilled

While this setup can fly, I need the pan arm extension to really balance it perfectly. But I have no trouble flying this setup as is. I also added a manfrottto QR on the cinemilled dovetail plate. Allows me to quickly take the camera off the ronin and within 1 min I can be on my sticks or on my shoulder rig.
This rig is really heavy due to all the added counter weights though. With the Pro-ring and the ready rig this will be a nice setup.
I am waiting on the pogo connector to relocate my RED touch monitor.

@ Cameron... hey, thanks for giving that a go... really appreciate the effort. I can see how that might turn into a heavy rig, and wonder if it's worth the effort to keep the handle on. My ultimate goal was to have a camera setup that was pretty much grab-n-go (handle, monitor, lens all attached in storage) but then be able to drop it onto a Ronin with the QR plate as you did. Glad to know it's very possible, albeit at the cost of additional weight. I guess I should just buy a gym membership as well... ;)

Hey, just looking at how the Cowboy Handle screws onto the brain... it looks like there would only be one screw holding the handle onto a Raven brain, which would not be good. Something different in the build of the Raven brain that has fewer 1/4" holes. Might want to reconsider that one unless you have a top plate or something it can grab ahold of.

Ahh, Didn't notice that before. Good looking out! I think I will pick up the wooden camera top plate for my raven

No problem! I was curious as well. Yeah, its quite a cumbersome "hack" to make it work.

I would be interested to know if you can pull the V-Mount battery off, attach a d-tap to Red power cable (powering the red from the ronin battery), slide the Raven + Side handle backward so that the side handle sits on the OTHER side of Ronin arm mechanism, and see if that balances without having to use the long Cinemilled plate and additional weight.

Tried it. It's too back heavy then. You would need a long lens and a heavy matte box to counter balance.
