Only the Forged/Woven Carbon Fiber Weapons include 4K ProRes. Meaning the Magnesium Weapons, while they can record in a higher quality ProRes codec than Raven, 4444 XQ, they're still only able to process a 2K image scaled from the entire sensor.

Raven has generously been engineered with ProRes capability as well, albeit "only" up to ProRes 422HQ, which in my opinion is plenty for a lower cost project.

RED has reiterated many times the benefits of shooting in compressed REDCODE. Alas, they've offered ProRes capability in their next generation of cameras as a way to appease producers, and those who need to fire off a quick project, or shoot B-roll and save REDMAG space. Including ProRes recording makes it much easier to sell the value of RED to those who don't fully understand the ecosystem. Even if they're iffy about REDCODE, nearly everyone in the industry is familiar with ProRes.

In addition, for those shooting 4K, the data rate alone is reason enough to reconsider the necessity of ProRes. 4K ProRes files are over 500GB per hour of footage, compared to 68/hr for REDCODE raw.

DANIELA 2!!!!

Who knows what the future holds?

DANIEL2, as AVI and QuickTime codecs, will soon be available as an SDK for developers. This allows for seamless integration with existing applications such as Adobe Premiere, Adobe AfterEffects, AVID MediaComposer, Vizrt, or any other application that supports these containers.

Question: is the Prores recording simultaneous on the Red Raven? So it can be used as a proxy for editing, with the same file-name and aspect ratio (except for resolution of course) as the original R3D file? Or is it one or the other? (sorry if I missed that info)

Yes Simultaneous
