  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rank your preferred ways of controlling the camera.

For example (not my personal list):
Touchscreen
Side Handle
Switchblade
REDmote
Mobile Device
etc.
 
I've started to really enjoy using the Side Handle, although in terms of efficiency the touchscreen is fastest and easiest. Just feels like to have real buttons with the Side Handle.
 
Touch screen, and I did sell the side handle. About to get the HOTLINK and Foolcontrol. Am expecting that to be a new favorite.
 
Depends wildly on what I'm doing.

SideHandle and Touch Screen are my main stays.

Switchblade has been showing up on people's cameras and it's been handy.

Foolcontrol has become useful for a variety of applications.
 
It really depends what I'm doing with the camera. I use the touch screen and side handle both, but for different roles. If I need to dig deep into the camera, its touch screen 99% of the time. But if I'm dealing with exposure or checking the focus, its all done with the side handle. Each set-up needs to have exposure monitored and focused checked, so the side handle is used a lot. But when it comes to playback or checking audio settings, that's all done with the touch screen.

But, if the camera is on a crane, then that changes everything.
 
Sidehandle for 95% and 5% touchscreen. Operating the focus is still one hand on the lens for focus pulling but I think i will try another solution this year (gimbal work and more).
 
70% touch screen
20% Side Handle
10% Redmote would be my feeling

Touch screen for almost all setup things, side handle with programmed buttons for false color, and gamma switching and with EF lenses the iris control.
Side handle also for "back button" i rarely use the touch screen back button, got really used to the side handle in that case.
Redmote for all remote stuff when camera is out of normal reach, like rigged high up or on a crane
 
Ok, you guys convinced me to get the 5" TOUCH. Had it for a day and life is much simpler now, lol. Didn't think 5" would be big enough but I've adjusted. Thanks.

Yes. That is what I was doing for the past 4 months. REDmote + 3rd party monitor. I'm about to sell my REDmote though.
 
I use the touchscreen for almost everything. I do program some buttons on the side handle to toggle exposure and focus. I also use the rocker to change ND on motion mount when I have installed. I love the side handle and usually carry the camera around by it when not mounted.

I never use the redmote.

Recently moved to the 7" LCD and love it. Miss the Grid loupe I had on the 5" LCD.

99% touchscreen
1% that infuriating REDMOTE
Sidehandle has been in it's case since a few days after it arrived - never seemed to really need it for my style of shooting.

Was thinking about Foolcontrol(?) as I've seen it in action and really liked it... But revelations over the last few days have me thinking about what's possibly coming at NAB. Weapon more than likely has a new slate of onboard and remote controls.
 
Its a pain to use the touchscreen when you have a sunhood on.
