1 out of every 20 files can't be opened on Vegas Pro 13. They show up as a horizontal strip of pixelated colors and read as TARGA files. CS6 and AE can open the file without an issue, but those are not my preferred platforms and with my workload its very hard to transition in a timely manner. I just need the files to open on Vegas Pro. I am currently rendering those corrupt file as AVI from AE to use in Vegas but that means I lose the option to edit the metadata on Vegas. Anyone ran across this issue? I have 2 64GB REDMAGS they both are new and present the same issue.

How about using RCX Pro to edit the meta data then output to a preferred format, then import the necessary file into Vegas.

Thank you! I completely neglected the program and what it actually did was allow me to save as a R3D Trims, which i can use in Vegas and still change the metadata!!!

Excellent news! RCX is very capable. :)

I have the same problem. I just open in RedCine-X , and output as same length r3d i.e. without trimming. Haven't done it in a while but as far as I recall I had to render the audio seperately

Vegas 13 partly works with Dragon. The file that can be downloaded here works http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZwPoFwlZJE (scroll down to where it says to download 6K r3d on the page.)
I tried 5K R3D from Scarlet Dragon does not work.

In Sept I contacted Sony support re Dragon and I got this reply:
"Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software. Vegas Pro 13 should be able to import those R3D format files without issue, per the tech spec sheet found here:http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/techspec

I recommend downloading and installing the 15 day free trial of Vegas just to give editing with those files a try before making any purchasing decisions"
.

Oct 1st I filed a support ticket with Sony re Scarlet Dragon 5K not working in Vegas, Sony's reply on 10/17/14 is:
Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

This is listed as a known issue in our database, to be resolved in a future application update.

Thank you for reporting this issue.

I asked but they could not give me any timeframe for a fix.

I also posted about this on the Sony Vegas forum at Sony, a user called "astar" posted a very helpful workaround.

AFAIK, no version of Vegas, even their latest Pro 13 release, can process Dragon R3Ds. Epic and below R3Ds is no problem.

Perhaps you could ask your editor to also file a request with Sony support. Vegas is behind in Red support and hopefully the more requests for this to be fixed, the quicker they will do so
Thanks for the updates Marcos and Werner !

I will shoot a 6K sample for the editor to test with Vegas. The 5K test footage I supplied him would not work.

I will ask him to do that. Its a shame when Vegas says its supports R3D files but doesn't work with Dragon R3Ds.
